Hello,

I'm still looking for a processor...
I have seen a 861 V3 (upgraded 4 years ago). The seller is asking 3200€.

What are the difference between V3 and V4 ? Only equalization below 250Hz ?

where can i find the price of the different input-output cards for the 861 ? (i unable to find anything with the search module frown )

Serge.

From http://www.Meridian-audio.info/public/861v4jk[426].pdf :

Starting with the v1, dual Motorola
processors were employed to provide all
necessary compute functions. With 861v3,
two additional latest generation Motorola
56367 DSPs (C+D) were added to the system.
With the 861v4 upgrade, processors
A+B were replaced with processors E+F,
and another pair of 56367s were installed
bringing the available raw DSP power to 600
MIPs. The digital receiver card also contains
another 150 MIPs, used for initial processing,
such as upsampling of a PCM input.

...

For owners of 861v3, the
upgrade to v4 is quite reasonable, with an
MSRP of $750. The big change for v4 is the
(previously mentioned) E+F DSP Cards and
software, which allows for the use of MRC.

Reading, can i say that a 861V3 sound quality is exactly the same of a 861V4 not using MRC ?

Serge.

I just had a v3 upgraded to v4 a couple months ago, so it is still available, at least in the US and I assume elsewhere. It cost approx. $1,500.

$1500 ??? shocked shocked shocked

It was the price listed in the widescreen review in 2004.

And after this upgrade, have you heard a big sound quality difference without using MRC ?

That sounds high for a V3 and I think V4 has been out longer than 4 years.

Unless you mean it was a V3 and was upgraded to V4 forur years ago?

Oops. I have misread an e-mail from the seller.
The father bought the original 861 and the son, who is the actual seller, bought it to its father 4 years ago. (its 861V3 version)

In the 861, there is the following cards:
- IA00
- IE42
- ID30
- VS00
- OA13
- OA03

Which price do you believe to be a fair price ?

Serge.

If you need analog, the OA13 cards are very good to have and very expensive ($1200.00 USD or more per card).

I don't know a fair price any more.

There is a V4 on audiogon listed for $5000.00 USD with TWO OA13's and IA45 (that's like $3600 right there just for those 3 cards).
