Quote below from Bob Staurt's original FAQ on the 800 Player. Numerous other similar claims were made around the time of the introduction of the 800 series

It is totally stunning! This is very important: CD will be the major source of music enjoyment for many years because the catalogue is so rich and the sound we can get is so good. Meridian has made the best CD players for 15 years, with award-winning models like the 208, 602 and 508. But, the 800 is by far the best sounding that has ever been made!

The ROM reading system and error correction method provides a very accurate data stream. The 800 then uses three levels of memory-based de-jittering to smooth out the data to previously unheard levels.

[color:#000000]Finally, precision DSP upsampling is used to feed an 88.2kHz 24-bit signal to the DACs or (optionally) the digital output(s).

Meridian`s 800 team has devoted three years to perfecting this aspect alone ….[/color]

It's also worth bearing in mind that for many years, Meridian also advised that other Analog Sources be fed into the 800 rather than the 861, in order to avail of this aspect of the 800's performance

This directly correlates with their HH2 position of the 808.2i as being their best means of introducing Sooloos and other Media Players into Meridian systems

There are also two Meridian SmartLink inputs for best connection to Meridian DVD players and the HD621.

As none of the current Meridian DVD players have an MMHR Ouput, this would further emphasize that Meridian are indeed talking about Smartlink and not MMHR frown
Yes this occurred to me. I'm really wondering if M has forgotten to add the MMHR inputs into the literature.

My thinking is this: Eight channel input over HDMI is standard for most non-M AV amps. Is Meridian really scoring an own goal here? I would have thought that they would add more MIPS and call it G68.2 rather than leaving out this crucial feature which is bound to lead to lost sales.

I wonder if the SpeakerLink inputs will also double as MMHR inputs?

I'm pretty sure that there will be 2x SmartLink (6-channel) inputs as well.

Need a piccy of the new G68 back panel!

I think you are right; and I think M has just alienated existing customers.

I have a meeting scheduled with them on Saturday. I think they will answer factual questions about the new products. Why not post your questions and I'll see what I can find out. Let's keep it short and simple. No guarantees but I'll do my best.

They went all the way to V6 and after how many years and only add MMHR and SpeakerLink? Sounds more like V4.1. I hope there is more to it.

They have not even released the HH2 Q&A yet have they?

I have not followed this thread as I was not interested in Speculation. Are we still speculating or have their been official announcements. If so the official stuff should go in a new thread.

Yes we need that. I bought speakers half a year ago and they have no speakerlink..

I rather have speakerlink upgrades for the DSP speakers if a bit affordable though..

Where is that newsletter available?

I think there is a lot that can be added in the sense of OPTIONAL manual filters to be used by preofessionals. The tools should be in place. It is inexcuseable not to have various filters choices, other than notch fitlers.

I'm a bit confused. IS the V.6 official or not? Can I upgrade my v.4.75 or do I have to get a new unit?

Thanks,
Ken
