That makes sense. Still, it's wonderful that the 500 series has proved so adaptable to be enjoying such longevity in demand.
One of the biggest reasons to buy Meridian is it's future proofing. HD621 has enabled complete Meridian systems to step up as technology has allowed, really quite superb. I know of no other manufacturer who's systems allow this, hence the drop off in value of so many non-HDMI enabled Home Cinema Receivers. in the end I sold my lovely Denon AVC A10SE for 150. Just wasn't getting used, in spite of costing 1300 in 2001 and still sounding great. It even had two sets of multichannel analogue inputs, one 5.1 and one 7.1 and even then it was only worth a minute fraction of the original price. Say 10%. Meridian gear of a similar vintage fetches around 30-35% of it's RRP which is really quite outstanding for second hand kit of that sort of vintage.

You asked if the 568.2 (non MM) would take SPDIF multichannel. From this I guess that you think you might be interested in PCM digital multichannel input (as we know you have a Bluray player). In which case, you shouldn't even consider not getting an MM. It would be a costly mistake if you decided you actually did need that input.

Good advice. At the moment it looks like my best move is to stick with my 562v which strangely enough seems to be all I need in a simple 2 channel system. I sadly wasn't able to hang on to the 568.1 to be able to test my DSP33s with it before selling it on. So at the moment I have no way of knowing how much better the 568.1 would have sounded powering the 33s vs. my 562v. What I do know, is that the 562v into my 557 powering my Dali Ikon 6s sounded better, clearer and richer than the DSP33s do. Only problem being lack of space. The 33s are wonderfully easy to integrate into the room. PC configured to take into account their placement and the Dali's being floorstanders are a pain. It's been nice to have my room back, so to speak! I've acquired a pair of 605 monoblocks, so I can see a shootout on the horizon. I miss my 557 but by golly if the 605s aren't pure hi-fi porn

[quote=Will Harris I see. I can see that the mm would command an obvious premium then. I'm less clear as to why you'd want the .2 over the .1 for it's improvements, unless you listen to a lot of SACDs or DVD-As and need the upsampling of a full track signal across the rear channels. [/quote] Will, not sure you do see, as there will not be any rear channels for SACD/DVD-A with a .2, just front stereo pair If you want a centre and rears it's an mm that is needed.

Diasagree here
Even in two channel stereo to my ears the 568.2is quite away ahead of a 568.1

Mr Perceptive Absolutely agree. I had a 568.1 and was a bit disappointed that it didn't really sound any better than my outgoing 561. The 568.2 however was a clear advance, and that was with the v2.12 firmware. The v2.5 is better again, so don't confuse both the .1 and .2 versions of the 568 as being pretty much the same. These are differences which are audible on any plain old 2 channel input, whether analogue or digital. Cheers George

At some point I must try and get to hear one. Do you think the difference into DSP33s over my 562v will be significant for analogue sources and also for coax digital PCM - 2ch?

Wish I'd had an overlap with my 568.1 before it went. Will be difficult to test again without buying one. Problem is, even if I do buy one, it didn't seem possible to sell my 562v. No-one seems to want one. Even the one's on eBay hardly get much interest. They're still great bits of kit, it's a shame.
