One of the things that was said repeatedly and earnestly by Bob and Richard at HH2, but not really written up on this forum, was that Meridian felt that no matter how much science and engineering they put into their products, there were still things that they didn't understand; and that's why, at the end of the day, they trust their ears over everything else.

The one magic piece of information I gleaned from this (or interpolated from what was said) is that jitter control *within* an audio processor component is critical*. How do you mitigate all those little reflections going on inside the PCBs which degrade the square waveform? So, potentially, removing *any* source of interference (e.g. the analogue board in the Oppo) could be a good thing. TBH though, I suspect that with the HD621, G68 and DSP33 de-jittering downstream, it's going to make bugger all difference.

* This has to be, incidentally, the reason why Bob refused to put HDMI chips into the audio processors, and Meridian believes that the 861 sounds better than the G68 in all-digital systems.

As a former engineer I used to think that everything could and needed to be explained linearly and scientifically. Being married taught me that there are other ways to look at things.

Since George showed me the benefit of tilting my 8k heads, I am willing to try any experiment that costs less than a pair of Staedler erasers.

Aloha,

Have you tried a variety of different erasers to see which ones work best in your listening room? Maybe a good British eraser? I suspect they all have varying abilities to damp vibrations. wink

guys you can't unplug the power cable on the analog board with the SPDIF mods, it causes a software check problem on 90% of the Oppos, which causes the HDMI output to blank out

Please let me clarify that I have a custom ht modded player without (!) the SPDIF mod. And I can only say that this unit works fine with both cables unplugged.

Gary, has Oppo sent you the disc yet? This is taking an awfully long time for something so trivial...

It's almost two now, and no sign of the refund promised a month ago...

Hello Gary. Do you have any intention of procuring my disc from Oppo? Please don't string this out any longer. How difficult is it to phone Oppo, have them send you a *free* disc, and post it to me in the UK?

Not as hard as sending me my refund.

It's been so long I'm beginning to get Stockhausen Syndrome.
