Nick - yours is the original Thomson box. Later Thomson SkyHD and all other brands of SkyHD don't have component outputs.

Whilst on the subject if SkyHD and early boxes, what was the outcome/who was the culprit in the SkyHD boxes breaking Pioneer TV's, and possibly others? I have not frequented AVforums for ages although did pop in recently to see if there was any update on that particular topic (as ex BBC staff, I hate Sky), but there was not any.

I can't believe that there was no formal resolution to this other than Pioneer fixing the boxes that broke.

you can easily adapt composite sync to sync-on-green.
the details are here, but basically it's a capacitor and a resistor.

i used to use this technique a lot many years ago when I worked with CRT displays for graphic design.
we never used to use the capacitor and i believe we used a diode as well or instead of the resistor (can't quite remember it was about 15 years ago!)
you could easily house these components in the scart plug.

Would this work if tv only accepts rgb via scart? Is it possible to regenerate the composite synch that would be expected from a scart cable?

i would think that most if not all sets would be able to accept sync on green over the scart connection.
given the cost of the components needed it would be easy to try by converting a standard scart-scart lead to take seperate sync at the source end and only output sync on green at the display end.
