The latest sales and marketing effort from Meridian. I hope some of you UK Hitchhikers participate and demo the DSP8000s in your homes.

Starting soon, you'll be able to experience the might and majesty of Meridian's flagship Digital Active loudspeaker - the DSP8000 - and even try them in your own home, with the Meridian DSP8000 Experience.

Since the beginning, over 30 years ago, Meridian has been developing active loudspeakers - and for the last 20 years, they've been digital.

The logic of active speakers is compelling: most of the elements of a standard hi-fi system are inside the speaker cabinet; there are no bulky, ugly speaker cables; no inefficient, ineffective passive crossover; and dramatically improved quality. The crossover is implemented digitally, with parameters you simply can't implement in an analogue design, let alone a passive one. The power amplifiers are directly connected to the drivers, for perfect control and impressive efficiency. Indeed, a Meridian DSP loudspeaker delivers the sound of a traditional loudspeaker four times the size.

At the top of the Meridian DSP loudspeaker line is the DSP8000. It's virtually unique in being able to reproduce, accurately, the power and dynamics of that most difficult of instruments to capture, the full-size Grand Piano. It can do equally well handling the soundtrack of an action movie. But until now, their appeal has been limited to a small circle of cognoscenti.

Now, that's all going to change. In conjunction with our Premium Partners in the UK, we are launching The DSP8000 Experience - a series of events designed to introduce more people to the exceptional performance of the DSP8000. There'll be an event held by each participating retailer, followed by an opportunity to experience the DSP8000 in your own home.

Click here to see the list of participating Premium Partners and the dates during which they will have DSP8000 units available for home demo: contact them for further details and an invitation.

It looks like Meridian are branching out with the dealers here a bit too. I hadn't heard of Newcastle HiFi before (they are near where I grew up), and their website doesn't even list Meridian in the "Browse Brands" drop down. Doing a search shows them as only an F80 dealer, so I guess Meridian just didn't want to miss out on the overpaid footballers we employee wink

I've had a pair of 8000s for home demo they where shipped up from Meridian HQ, following a conversation with M staff during the HH day, and installed by Music Matters (my local dealer).

The 8Ks realy do put a smile on your face, so much so that I ordered a pair and a 7200HC to go with them. With the 8Ks and my 5500HC I found that I was using direct mode a lot more compared to Trifield. I'm realy keen to see how the 7200HC will compare against the 5500HC and whether Trifield once again become king.

More detailed report to follow once I have my new kit installed, run in and I've had time to play.

Regards,
Carl.

8000s are now installed, 7200HC still in box till I get a new stand sorted.

Wife likes 8000s in silver, but does not like 7200HC box in sitting room mad

Need to get stand sorted ASAP wink

I will post finding once all the "Playing" (Re-Calibration, Room Correction, etc) has been done.

Carl.

Carl,
I'm using 2 old Target stands as a temp measure. Doesn't look too bad at all. When we get an idea of a proper stand, let's chat. Might be worth a "how much for 2..." question.

Big box isn't it wink

Carl / Nick,

If I were ye, I would probably email both Des and Roland at Meridian and ask them what stand they were using in the main Dem room for the D7200HC.

I'm not sure if it would suit your home installations and settings or not, but the fact that it was angled upwards towards the listening position might be worthwhile.

Ronnie ,

I asked Roland (?) about that very stand and he said that they had had it custom built . I wonder if they'd be willing to let us have a schematic of it to help getting one built privately ????

In London recently I came across a Samsung shop on Tottenham Court Road with an even better hard oak with steel support underneath that would be even better and more room-friendly but it turns out that that too was custom built for Samsung to display all types of kit and all sizes of screens .

The guy in the shop wasn't too hopeful that Samsung would be able to get me the details of where it was built but he gave contact details for another guy who may be able to clone it .

Hope you're well and enjoying your new(ish) toys!!

I would think that if at least three of you here were interested, then Meridian should surely play ball, as they likely got it built locally by someone in the UK

As we know, most of the hassle and cost in designing these "custom" stands or units lay in the making the First One. I'd be surprised if the original maker wouldn't be interested in repeating, now that the back has been broken in terms of design, materials and putting it together

I have to say though that I don't remember much about the stand itself though and how room (or wife) friendly it might be. I was looking at the speaker itself and the fact that it was angled (which I thought was a good idea), but you might be in a better position to critique the aesthetics of the stand, as I don't remember much about it

Don't Meridian use Richard Kroll (sp?), a fellow HH'er for some of their stands?

Hi Guys,

We've indeed manufactured several stands for Meridian. I have also spoken directly with Allen Boothroyd about a stand for the DSP7200HC. He was very enthusiastic about the designs we proposed for this but due to the fact the the DSP7200HC was still under development i.e. not final things were put on the backburner....

If there is a general interest in a dedicated 7200HC stand it might be worthwhile to let me know what features/specifics you would like to see in such a stand.

Best regards,

Richard Krol
