The Apple TV can stream off a NAS, without locally storing the content

Alternatively, the ATV can Sync its iTunes Library with your own PC / NAS to its own 40Gb or 160Gb hard drive (There may be further announcements / upgrades on this at an Apple event later today)

Using its HDMI Output in conjunction with the HD621 is certainly an attractive possibility

The ATV can then be controlled using the Apple Remote and the FrontRow Apple application on your screen or else used without a screen by using the Apple Remote App for the iPhone / iTouch

So will it do this without a PC being on too? Also, same with movies? Is this all built in or does it requiring hacking to achieve?

No PC required, but obviously the NAS needs to be on and have a Streaming Server enabled for streaming.

If relying on iTunes Library syncing, then I don't think the PC or NAS needs to be on

This is all native to the Apple TV, no hacking required as I understand it

I assume Movies will work in a similar way, especially if using the Sync method. I've really only looked at it as a Music Streamer in conjunction with the HD621.

One other point to note, is that 96/24 material is supported and will output that in 2-channel over HDMI

Waiting for my Oppo to arrive. Will then test it against my G91A.

Given that I will only get around 1000 for a used G91A and given that the Oppo is a plastic box with a fan and not a high end box like my G91A I don't think I will exchange it.

I think I'm going to run both machines: Oppo for BD and SACD, G91A for DVD-A and CD.

I can confirm the G98 wont pass multi channel through HDMI. A serious flaw imho.

This was the one question that Bob did answer at the HH2 day.

1. He was under the impression that the G98 would output multichannel over HDMI but it may require a software fix.

2. He strongly (one might say very strongly) would not recommend this approach.

Judging by his recent track record of shipping delays if you did order one that statement may prove rather prophetic.

Cheers,

Tony.

How did you accomplish that? I tried but all I get from the HDMI is 44.1kHz.
