This is strictly my subjective opinion.

Obviously the best is both but if it is an either/or I would go for the center for movies, but as you state CD listening I would go for the rears.

Having said that I would quanlify this by saying that it is a bit of a coin toss and not a critical decision. Your set up would be somewhat like mine and since I read the comments on the advantage of stereo with "large" mains vs surround with "smaller" centers and rears, I am almost, but not quite converted to the stereo camp for music. Now movies is a whole other story.

I hope this helps.

I'd go for rears.

If you think listening to music is fun, try learning an instrument.

I have heard 3 DSP7k in Trifield. It's a pretty powerful punch so I would go for that first..

Ambience would be next on my list..

DSP8000SE, DSP7200SEHC, DSP5200SE sides, DSP7200SE rears, 861v8, 210, Sim2 Ultranero 4, Stewart Cinecurve 2.35:1, XEIT CM-5E Anamorphic lens, Dune HD Duo Cinema 8K and Wireworld Platinum 48G HDMI -> UHD722 -> Shunyata Omega Ethernet. In descending order, I would suggest the following

a) A Vertical D7k Matching Centre Speaker

b) A Horizontal Centre Speaker, mounted as high as possible to match the Tweeter position of the L&R D7k's

c) Rear or Side Speakers

Your question related to CD Listening, but I would stick with the above descending order for Movie Audio

I think the answer may depend on how your left/right speakers are set up and how stable your center image is. Another factor is how close together your left/right speaker are. The closer together they are the less a center channel is needed. If you provide some additional information, including a photo of your setup if possible, the better our advice can be.
