Well, mine arrived on Monday (no additional charges) and I'm delighted. Took a while to set things up and re-program the Harmony895 but all seems to be working fine now. I'm still trying to digest all the various Edge video settings and I can see that might take a wee while. However, the sound is excellent and those who are still waiting will not be disappointed. Gary, you mentioned earlier that you could advise of settings to get the best from the Edge, I`m all ears..... Thanks Mike

i must admit i havent tried the 4xspdif yet but obviously using the edge for the vp and input switching,to be honest sky seems a little fuzzy not as sharp as before(maybe some setting somewhere)and Bluray through my ps3 is a little grainy(again maybe a setting somewhere). if anybody with vp experience could jump in and advise i would be grateful. many thanks in advance jonathan

Hi John
In general terms, I think you're looking to switch off all picture processing in the screen itself, reset all the screen adjustments to zero or flat, and let the scaler do everything. Ideally you'll pixel map the display, so the screen needs to be able to accept an input without trying to rescale it, and the Edge should be set to output the pixel size and frequency of your screen. Make all of your picture adjustments on the Edge.
I still have a Crystalio scaler driving my 6th Gen Panasonic screen (SD only!) and it took ages to get set up due to the learning curve. Admittedly the picture with the scaler in situ looked better 'straight out of the box', but tweaking thereafter improved picture quality a great deal further.
I wouldn't get disheartened just as yet. Personally I reckon that a number of these products have become so detailed in their set up and tuning that a huge amount of patience is required to get them set up properly.
Cheers
George

I would give the same advice, first turn off all processing in your Samsung. If both the Edge and the TV process you will loose sharpness. It can also be too aggressive Mosquito noise reduction in the Edge. Then do your adjustments on the Edge using the built-in Test Patterns. Earlier there a little too few adjustments you could do with the Edge, hte new 1.2 FW has bettered that a bit.

Well the box is doing a fantastic job.
I will only comment on audio side of things first (there is a mountain of info around on the edge itself)
The versitility is fantastic.
Early days for me but my Tosh HD-XE1 and Sony blu-ray player sound superb.
Just connected my HTPC into the pot. Setup HDMI input 2 to accept sound from toslink 1 and output sound via HDMI which then leaves the EDGE via the MHR link and the sound again is stonking.
More later

Martin HI Martin, I also have my HTPC connected to the EDGE via coax but have configured the output from the EDGE to be optical and it sounds great. Is there any advantage in having the EDGE output via HDMI when the input is a single SPDF? Cheers Mike

The setup above could be useful if you take 2-channel sound from a decoder and want to get it to the TV speakers, for casual viewing without the Home Theather system turned on. This is what I think mrbluray does. Otherwise coax/toslink would be equal or better than HDMI to your processor.

Hi,
Sorry if I sound strange, but all the litterature I have about the edge never refers to 4 SPDIF outputs, only HDMI or standard toslink/SPDIF output.
Did I miss something?

The edge has been modded to include multi channel SPDIF out - see the restaurant for details.
