Hi,

My 596 appears to have digested another transport, does any one know what type of transport is used and if its user replaceable.

I'm happy to ne taking to bits an re-assembling (work with kompetwas), but I don't want to go wading into the board with a soldering iron :-)

Apologies if this has been asked before!

Thanks

James

Meridian have been absolute stars with mine. They have replaced the drive without question or charge each time it has failed, even several years after I bought the 596.

Yes, it's replaceable. The default unit is a DSL-710A, and is a normal DVD drive similar to what you would find in a computer. A few screws, the power cable, and the IDE cable, and you're done.

M's firmware has to recognize the device, so even though it's a normal DVD drive, you can't assume any DVD-ROM will work.

That said, M is awesome about simple repairs like this, as Gianni mentioned.

Thanks for the reply folks - have spoken to the tec folk at Meridian and the drive is user replaceable, however if I send it back to them they can change the power supply, which will hopefully stop it eating drives.

Thanks

That's interesting, I sent my 800D back to M to have a new drive fitted (CD play back was ok but DVD was very patchy) and when it came back they had also changed the power supply.

If anyone is interested, I have an unused DSL-710A DVD-ROM drive. This has been sitting around my home office, waiting to be of use to someone. Send me a PM.

Regards,
Roger
