if you need optical output you will need to go into the setup menus and set the audio output to optical instead of audio only HDMI, but the mod no longer works after you do this

thanks

Gary,

I knew that and it was clear to me, as I know how to deal with the processor in deep, but probably I wasn't clear on my e mail, because of course I've done my test with the audio out set to optical, but no way to get audio out alive, this is the problem.

FYI, the normal listening at home is 80% non HT (audio from TV monitor and I made everybody, including my wife can easily operate). When I switch HT on, I can manage to switch between optical and HDMI out - these were my intentions, but for this the audio switch must work.

Ciao

Ermanno

Ermanno, the only thing that will output from the optical on the Edge is a capable audio signal on the input side, this is only Dolby or DTS or 2.0 PCM, so your source components will need to be connected via their optical/coaxial outputs into the Edge for you to have optical output on the Edge

thanks

There are five multichannel Movie presets:

• Cinema, PLIIx Mov6, THX, THX Surround EX, and THX Ultra2 Cinema.

The multichannel Music presets all use the Music speaker layout and the multichannel Movie presets all use the 5.1 Movie speaker layout; see Speaker layouts, page 45.

Cinema
The Cinema preset is recommended for listening to multichannel movie soundtracks when no further processing is required.

Discrete
The Discrete preset is similar to Cinema, except that it uses the Music speaker layout and sets the LFE level to -10dB.

Yes Virus,

That`s clear. Since I`ve my Movie and Music layout with different bass management set up indeed and I`d prefer to use Movie6 for movies on Blu-Ray exploiting the new HD audio formats and Movi2 for two channel Dolby surround from satellite.

When the EDGE is connected, the display on the G68 shows that the layout selected is always Music 6 (I gather Music 2 with phantom as you suggested). That`s why I wonder if there`s some way to change the Layout and to select Movie.

Anyway the “Cinema “ DSP option is available also in Music6, which was not supposed to be as per the manual. I Wonder which layout is using in this case!!

More accurately, the G68 treats the input as multi-channel music (as it has no SmartLink data to tell it otherwise) and applies the default multi-channel preset that you have associated with Music6. The bass *layout* is entirely determined by the choice of DSP preset (or at least, that's what the manual implies).

Gary,

That's what I meant. Any source connected via coax, optical and analog, you get no output to optical out (when selected in set-up) and no out also to HDMI (when is selected) as it should be.
Again, so far you should physically see red light on the optical outlet when it works...well no light at all. It's an HW problem?

Are the issues resolved, or any outstanding problems with the Edge (both modified and un-modified)?
