George, the Radiance is such a fast processor you will want to delay handing video over to it until the latest instance possible to avoid (currently) uncorrectable lipsync issues where the video arrives ahead of the audio. So I'd put the HD621 first in the chain. Once Lumagen add video delay to the Radiance things can be moved around as necessary.

IMO.

I definitely need to keep the ProHDP for now. Just watched a movie with PCM conversion coming through the HD621 and needed a lipsync of just 3ms on the 861. The Radiance is some 17ms+ faster than the ProHDP which would put me into uncorrectable lipsync territory. So for now my Radiance stays in it's box.

Thanks for the tip on the DVI Detective+

George,

I'd put the HD621 behind the Radiance. You will get faster syncs since the XD keeps all HDMI inputs active all the time and you have the XDs EDID control.

Feeding the sources into the Radiance then putting the HD621 after the Radiance. Either on its first output and then taking the 621s output to the display or using the second output on the Radiance and feeding the HD621 while using the Radiances first output to the display.

Shawn

That would be 17' *forward*, which would put me 1' behind the front speakers laugh

I've just discovered something quite astonishing... I think... Using PCM for the HD621 has forced me to readdress my lipsync so I've been going trough my usual test discs and working the numbers out and discovered that I now need values around 77ms for sources converted to PCM and passed through the HD621. Which means I should now be able to use the Radiance without worrying about video delays!

If my numbers are correct it means the converting codecs to PCM is much faster than processing the Dolby/DTS audio, extracting cores, packing into high bit DTS, passing to the processors and then unpacking again. Which actually doesn't seem unreasonable.

This would also solve my DVI issue with the HD621

More testing this afternoon.

I need to do proper testing before committing, but flipping on discs with multiple tracks (ie lossless vs lossy) reveals the lossless to be more open, particularly in higher frequencies which opens up the soundstage and also more robust in it's presentation - I was listening to Bridge over Terabethia during the classroom singalong (lots of children banging instruments and clapping) and the difference was clear; the instruments sounded more real and everything was more distinct. But that's assuming both streams are from the same master. That may not be the case.

My biggest impression so far, across multiple discs, is that the surrounds (and thus the soundstage) is improved with lossless - it's more open (higher frequencies) and more engaging. Perhaps more is thrown away from the surrounds in lossy codecs?

Anyway, the Meridian kit always sounded great. This is the icing on the cake.

I hate HDMI.

3 sources (Tosh HD-XA1, Sony BDP-S550 (US), Sony BDP-S350(UK)), all have issues, even direct to projector. Going through other recievers, ie Radiance and HD621 exacerbate issues. Going through the older DVI based ProHDP they had no such issues, but then they have the RGB PC issue with the HD621.

Now I see multiple handshakes going on and my HD-XA1 will only ouput 480p no matter what I try! Fortunately I have another HD-DVD player, the XE1 but even that has issues. I've just downloaded the final firmware for it and will upgrade today and hope it sorts things out.

I suppose this is the pain we must endure for 1080p/24 images and lossless sound.
