The disc eject on my G92 has been a bit erratic for a few weeks but on the couple of occasions when the eject failed it could always be 'reset' by powering the G92 off and then back on.

Now that no longer works and when I try to eject the CD that is in there it makes a valiant attempt but gives up with a message "No Disc".

I just wondered whether there is a simple way of forcing the disc to eject - or is it a matter of returning the machine to Meridian for repair (which presumably I will have to do at some stage anyway).

Have you tried using gravity, I know its a pain, but it may at least get your disc out.

There is normally a small hold to push a paper clip into that will eject a stuck disc, but checking my F80, which I assume has a similar mechanism to the G92, I can't see this hole. That said, I am pretty sure I once had a stuck disc and did manage to eject - think it may have been the metal lugs but I would not want to risk it.

Then what put in another disc?

Just send it in and get it fixed.

George, Yes it has to be fixed, Its just nice to have your disc out and worth IMHO a simple try by ejecting with gravity. Nothing to lose. Chris smile

Thanks everyone. I'll arrange to send it in (I have to do that anyway.)

Until it goes in for repair I can use the G92 with squeezebox to play CD's ripped to my PC (a really wonderful device).

By the way, peering into the slot - I don't think gravity would work as the exit is obstructed by the two sensor bars (that detect when a CD is being inserted). No matter, Meridian will deal with it.

Nothing to lose, except possibly more damage, by a slip up. I can almost guarantee the disc will not just fall out, certainly not out of any slot loader I've seen. Pinch rollers, spindle clamp etc. No way it's coming out.

You might try just putting in a second disc into the slot. This usually frees the first disc.

"You might try just putting in a second disc into the slot. This usually frees the first disc. "

I'm sure it's a good idea but I'm just a tad nervous about getting a second disc jammed in the player (possibly followed by a third, etc ...).

Mr Meridian: "Tell me, why are there so many discs jammed into the slot? You know it's only supposed to play one at a time."

Mr JohnGB: <with forced joviality> "Well it seemed a good idea at the time."

By the way, I see from another thread here that Meridian is at the Bristol show this weekend. I live in Bristol and on the few occasions I ventured forth I found the whole thing irritating and fairly useless. But I will pop along and talk the the guys there. (I'm enjoying using Squeezebox on EAC FLAC rips at the moment - so a few days won't make any difference.)

Prompted by the stuck CD I have been examining the CDs/DVDs which I have played in the G92 and am slightly alarmed at what I have found.

On all of them there is at least one (sometimes multiple) faint but noticable broad lines across either the whole disc or part of the disc, on the 'playing surface' side, about 1" in from the rim. These are about 1/8" broad and when I look at them with a magnifying glass I find they are comprised of very many tiny scratches, presumably where the pinch rollers have been - possibly when I have taken the disc out of the machine - causing the scratches along the line the rollers have gripped the disc.

All of the discs are still playable without any audible problems, and rip successfully with EAC/Accuraterip but, IMO, this isn't good and long term might well damage discs that are repeatedly played.

I should mention that I bought the G92 as Ex Demo stock, so I suppose it might have been used with dusty discs and the dust might have become ingrained into the pinch rollers. I also must admit to having been concerned whether this might be a problem with a slot loading machine before I bought it, but then thought Meridian wouldn't implement such a mechanism unless they were fully confident of it.

Anyway, I will take it up with the dealer and with Meridian.

Apologies for thread exhumation..!

My G92 has decided not to open. The disc that’s in there plays perfectly. When I press the “Open” button, nothing happens. No whirring / mechanical noises. It’s as though the open button isn’t connected. I’ve tried power cycling the unit etc.

Is there another way to eject the disc?

Is this a known/common problem with Meridian G-series units?

Thank you in advance for any help/advice offered.

I had a G92 but I can't remember whether the disc in/out mechanism is via gears or a belt drive. If the latter, your belt is broken, if gears then the little drive motor has failed (unusual) or something is obstructing the gear meshing. Just possibly (always suspect power supplies) your supply's voltage has drooped with age (in which case tweak it back up to 5.2V at the supply) or the supply is failing so it is not handling the extra load of the eject motor. In all cases you will need to take the lid off. Careful manual operation of the eject mechanism should get your disc out (take care and proceed slowly) and you can then inspect the other possibilities for the underlying cause.
