Shawn,

Considering the price of the alternative, why not raise the price of your mod? I'm sure there would still be many takers at more than double the prices.

I just completed the purchase of Shawn's 4xSPDI/F transceiver board. It has not arrived yet, but I am expecting it any day now. I also purchased the Octava box.

I will do the modification and will report on it. From the pictures that I have seen of this mod, it seems that it is not all that difficult.

One thing, I would like to note, - we are dealing with 75-ohm interface here, so it makes sence to use 75-Ohm connectors and not to re-use existing RCA connectors on the Octava box, as they are not 75-Ohm rated. Also, 75-Ohm RCA connectors do not really exist, inspite of what some companies claim.

So it leaves us with BNC. It seems to me that the 75-Ohm BNC connectors can be installed in the available space on the Octava box, leaving the 7.1 analog input and output in place in the stock form. Thoughts anyone?

Like you said 75-Ohm RCA conenctors don't exist but everyone including Meridian uses them. So why bother switching to BNC just here.

Indeed, I agree, why bother. The reason I even thought about it, because my intention is to use the modified Ocatava in a set-up that will exclude the Meridian, - hence my 568 is for sale now if anyone wants it.

So, I was thinking of using the BNCs on Octava because the unit the Octava is going to be plugged in to could also use BNC connectors. In the context whereby the Meridian gear is used, the use of BNC connectors makes little sense.

In any event, at this time I have the Octava box and I just received Shawn`s 4x SPDI/F board. I will take pictures of the process and when I am done, hopefully soon, I shall post them.

The Octava circuit board is all surface mount components and they are rather tiny. So my feeling is that unless you have experience with soldering and working with surface mount parts, this mod is not for you. Shawn provided me with pictures of the mod that he did, and I intend to use it as a guide, but there is one complication so far as I see it, - the Octava`s board has a re-work in the area where the wires must go. This complicates things, so we will see how it goes. In the end I will most likely drill new holes and install plain vanilla RCA plugs, just like Shawn did.

Hey Guys,
Tried twice to do the Shawn Fog mod on the Octava. I haven't given up but this is very tiny work. The solders are very small and it's very hard to determine absolutely which pin is which on the chip. I haven't given up but I haven't had success either. Does anybody know of a hardware tech that can do these installs in the US?
This is not an operation for beginners.
Thanks,
Sam

[MotherNatureForgiveMe] Be sure to use leaded solder [EndForgiveNess]

I found it impossible to do with lead free solder.
