I have ordered a board from Shawn and will install it too. I will take some pics and do a 'how to', showing exactly what wires go where, if anyone is interested?? We would be eternally grateful if you did. Thanks in advance.

Some time ago I contacted Octava to ask if it would be possible to change the behavior of the Smart Scan. At first they recommended me to disable the Smart Scan feature, but that is not really convenient. I asked if they could make the Smart Scan independent of the availability of the display. This would be ideal for listening music through the HDMI. They promised to send me a modified firmware, and I received it yesterday. I just installed it today, and it seems to work as intended. When I turn on one of my players (but leave my display off), the Octava just switches on and selects the correct input.
Thanks to Octava for their great service and make an already very useful product even better!

Just depends what you need. I do not need video processing, and the Octava is quite a bit cheaper than the DVDO Edge. Well, I could use video processing for my Laser Discs, but I retired them to the attic already long ago ...

So it doesn't need a sink when in smart scan now too? If so that is a nice firmware upgrade. Octava has been very good about firmware upgrades.

Yes, no sink needed at all, and Smart Scan still works on the sources (which I find very convenient).

i wasnt aware that included the octava my apologies ,i do know joe ferdnand was tinkering with the octava but no information as yet.

yes, we will do any and all hardware out there for 4 or 3 x SPDIF, I will also develop models at request
we can offer send in service or we can acquire/premodify and then ship the gear you want
