Hello there

I have recently purchased a 2nd hand 568 updated with the latest software, so 5.6825.

I have purchased it to replace my 565.

The problem I am having is actually setting the thing up as it would appear that it cannot be done manually unlike the 565. I am unable to set up the speaker sizes etc.
I have today purchased a rs232 to USB cable only to find that it will not work as I have 2 male connectors??

Can I get a cable that goes from USB to rs232 female, or do I need a convertor of some description?

I would prefer it if someone says you can set it up manually but if this option is not available, then any help and guidance would be much appreciated.

Thanks very much.
Kind Regards
Col

There are tips to sort this out in the Wiki.

http://www.meridianunplugged.com/wi...32%20or%20USB%20Communication%20Problems

You cannot use a cable that goes from USB strait to RS-232 on the Merdian. You a working proper USB to RS-232 and the correct null modem cable.

Col, you need what I think is called a "Null Modem Cable". Somthing like that.

You will find plenty of topics on here about communicating with 500 series product.
As far as I know, USB is a No No.
Others will chip in here, Cheers Chris smile

A good USB adapter works perfectly fine.

Thanks for your replies.

Just to clarify, if I use the USB to rs232 with a suitable female to female Null Modem convertor, will this then work?

Wish I had researched this before purchasing as I probably would not have bothered!

Thanks again

You can pick up a null modem adapter at any Radio Shack for about $5.00.

You can indeed set it up manually. Meridian`s Software Config will obviously give you more precise access to fine tune everything, but certainly you can set up a 568.2 via a combination of its front panel and the remote (and it helps if you can run the on screen display settings too).

Page 74 of the manual guides you through setting up the 568 without a computer. If you don`t have a physical copy of the manual here is a PDF:

Hi Daniel
Thanks for this. I do have the original manual and have gone through it but it does not allow me to set up the speaker sizes, only select 5.1 AAA.

The processor has defaulted all speaker settings to zero, which means all small, when I need all large!
