Hi Guys,

I was wondering if there is a way to stop my 596 from automatically playing DVD's when they are put in? I had a look at the menu but to no avail.

Any help would be great.

Thanks again
G

Hi G, I have never seen this as a problem.
My 596 always takes me to the main menu and I have set it (Via the 96 Menu)so that I can shortcut the dire piracy warnings by using the Menu or next chapter buttons on MSR+.

Some discs may autoplay, but that is set in the disc software I believe.

I am sure others will add more, Cheers, Chris smile

Hi Chris,

Thanks mate. When i put the disc in, it automatically starts the DVD, as in it takes it to the main menu or through those annoying copyright clips etc... Basically i want it to be like my PS3 or 360 if possible? With those i can enter a disc into them, but they do not play until i tell them too (this is a setting i can set with those players). Not sure if this possible or not with the 596, but it sure would be handy as i tend to leave discs in the player and everytime i turn on my 861 the 596 turns on too (which i wanted it to do) but it starts the film and then obviously sits there looping on the menu which is in turn killing the drive over time and it is getting very expensive sending it off to be repaired every 6 months or so :-(

Cheers
G

I get your drift there, I dont leave discs in myself so its not a problem for me. It may be worth giving Meridian a call if knowone knows here.
I have never had a drive problem on my 596, perhaps I am lucky.

Good luck and let us know what you find out, Chris smile

This is an old issue and happened on the 598 as well and there was never a resolution for it. It's also quite different from the orginal statement of popping in a disc and playing it by default. It was very frustrating and certainly didn't help life time on burning up your drive. Not sure what the G98 does. My G91 spins the drive every time on power up but it does not play it and spins back down. But I sure wish it wouldn't spin it at all.

If you disconnect the 598 from COMs and make it a controller it will run independently. However the IR codes are the same and I'm not sure if there is a way of seperating the IR codes (i.e. like a seperate zone or something).

The only resolution was to take the disc out. Which made dealing with CD's the Meridian way all the more frustrating. My final resolution was to get a squeezebox and a PS3 and get rid of the 598. Problem solved with extra cash in my pocket.

With the G98 there is a setting in Mconfig called Pause Disc. This stops disc spin up when another source is selected.

The other highly annoying artifact of the 596 constantly looping on a DVD's menu, I found, was that eventually the 596 would completely lock up, requiring a power cycle of the back panel switch to resolve.

Bummer looks like that option is not available on the G91.
