Can anyone tell me the essential differences between the G68 and the G61R. Now that the G61 has been upgraded to include Room Correction I can't see any major difference....

Assuming the advent of the HDMI to MSR converter box, what additional benefits do I get from buying a G68 over a G61R? (When the time comes...........)

Apart from physical form factor and lack of video and zone inputs and outputs, the only difference vs. the G68ADV that I am aware of is that the G61R has less MIPS (approx. 500) than the G68 (750). Exactly what this means in practice is unknown. For instance, there may be less room correction filters available per-channel or in total, or there may be less scope for new algorithms (such as the apodizing upsampling). But I am speculating; I'd give Meridian a call and ask for specifics.

I don't believe the G61R has a tuner.

I like the idea of the 61R more. You get exactly what Meridian do best in the 61R and nothing extra. If you can live with the inputs/outputs provided of course.
I don't think the tuner and video switching in the 68 is worth the extra cost. The tuner and video switching can only do harm to the important stuff.
Perhaps the processing power is an issue but doubt it when the 61R is a very recent product but should be checked with Meridian.

so. If I swap my G68J for a G61R, I shouldn't notice a difference other than form factor?

Does the G61 have USB inputs?

If so, then I could achieve swmbo points and get the ultimate pc sound card?

Good old continuity errors as we all expect.

I wouldn't make that decision based on the information in the G61R manual, which I suspect is a cut and paste error from the G68 manual. The following information from the very latest data sheets seems more likely to me:

But the data sheet on the new home page seems to be dated 2005 which is the old G61 and not the new G61R.

It seems more reasonable that they would have increased the MIPS from 500 to 750 when they introduced room correction in the G61? Otherwise the old G61 would be capable of room correction with a software update wouldn't it?

Second edit: Having re-read your post again, what you say makes perfect sense.

But a G61 is not equal to a G61R

As said previously. Contradiction in a way that we are so use to. However, in their defense, I don't think the website is live.


Easy to get confused. G61 is not a current product. But it does look like they are mixing and matching specs for G61 and G61R even when headed G61R.
