My problem with the power supply starts about 6 month ago. The 861 stops the sound suddenly in a movie. It "klicks" behind and the Display shines without any signs and it klicks... and so on.Only a restart helpt, but only for a few minutes. I sent it to the swiss distributor and they chanched the power supply (original Meridian replacement part).
After 4 weeks the same Problem again. Now they were looking very intensiv for the problem and mailed also with M. but it was still the power supply. The swiss distributor told me that he chanched the supply again, but a higher quality now.
It worked 3 weeks, and the same problem...
Now they put a stronger supply in and the 861 is 5 days now in my cinema and it still works. I hope it will also in future.

Had any body else experiance like this?
Are the Meridian replacement parts ok?

This story was very annoying for me.

Hi Proton and welcome to the forum.

The 861 power supply does seem to be a weak point and you do seem to have been particularly unlucky. It could be that your distributor had a dodgy batch of replacements. Hopefully if you have the latest PSU it will be trouble free.

I don't have any direct experience of this, but I'm sure others who do will add to this thread.

Check you consumer rights in Switzerland. Under UK consumer law you would be able to reject that unit as "unfit for purpose", particularly as you have given them the opportunity to remedy the issue, and demand either a replacement or a refund. It is unacceptable, particularly with a product like the 861, that such problems persist...

I am sure the dealer is doing his best, but I would now insist, in writing, that the dealer remedy the issue permanently and within an acceptable time limit, eg 3-4 weeks, or failing that I would then reject the unit and demand a replacement/refund.

Had a problem with the power supply failing a few months ago. Was replaced in a week at no cost and so far so good.

PS changed many times and finally the
AC/DC board was changed.
Since that time i had no problems

I had a problem with my 861V2 recently too. I would be watching a movie and it would just soft reset and then continually soft reset. It was only solved by switching off and on - but the issue continually came back.

I tried to check settings with my laptop and an USB Com cable but even then the 861 seemed to not respond correctly.

I was on the verge of sending it back to Meridian UK but I had an idea that it may be a loose card. I remembered that the effect only surfaced when I had moved my 861.

So, I put the 861 on the dining room table and carefully pulled out every card. I reinserted every card and made sure that every card was FIRMLY back in place.

When I powered back on everything worked perfectly again and the USB Com port works correctly.

No trouble since either.

My 861 was sent back to Meridian last week for exactly this problem, which, was the same issue I had 6 months ago and again about 2 years ago. Does Meridian recommend using power protection devices on their equipment?

Had the same problem 2 months ago, problem was fixed in a week. The dealer replaced both the PS and the small circuit print next to it.
You need to attach a wire with some sort of chip to the chassis, I guess for cooling purposes. Originally this was glued, now we used a small screw.
