Want to know if anybody makes ceiling mounts for DSP 33's. I know omni mount makes a wall mount but I don't know if it can be used as a ceiling mount as well.
Also, how good is the bass in the DSP 33's? Would they be a good choice for a surround speaker for those who don't have enough floor space for any of Meridian's floor standing models?
the bass in the 33 is surprisingly non-crappy. it's no 5500 or anything, but it's far better than i know i expected.
i use 5000s as my rears, and i use 33s in my bedroom as the only speakers. i listen to the jazz stations off the satellite all the time and i think they sound quite nice.
i originally bought them to use as my rears in the den, but was concerned that they'd lack enough bass. after using them now for a few months in the bedroom i'm reconsidering installing them in the den (much better WAF) and moving the 5000s to the bedroom.
i have the omnimount wall mounts. i don't think the arm has enough clearance to be used as a ceiling mount (the speakers wouldn't be able to get vertical). i'd be stunned though if omnimount didn't have a similar ceiling-mountable version.
I have mounted the 33's in my theater ceiling with Omnimounts, without any difficulty. These are only my side speakers. For the rears I wanted more bass response, so I used 5000C's. I have run frequency response tests on both pairs, and the 5000C's reach much deeper.
Let me be more specific. Would DSP 33's as side and rear surrounds produce enough bass to satisfy if I had 5500's upfront, 5500C, and 2 M&K THX5000 subs?
I would love to put 5000's or 5500's for the sides and rears but I fear there just isn't enough floor space. People sitting at the edges of the room would be too close to a floor standing speaker.
unregistered - i have 6Ks front and a 5500HC. the 33s and 5000s are woefully bass-shy in comparison. so if that's your point of comparison, it's a BIG difference between them.
BUT if you have two subs and can put one on the rear channel, i don't see how you'd have a problem.
I also have 6K's in the front, and my bass response is just fine, even without subwoofers. I would say that your plan will also work well.
It takes a very big room to be able to use floor-mounted sides and rears without blasting some of your guests in the ear. Ceiling mounts seem to be the best alternative.
Now that they are mounted, there are no model markings on them, so I can't tell which one it is. The mount attaches to the ceiling, goes straight down about 6 inches, then bends at a 45 degree angle to another segment of several inches. Then there is the adjustable omnimount ball joint on the end.
