A communication from Meridian to dealers a couple of months ago when I pressed them for an update: The Trifield width bug fix is in development however, testing new versions of software across our entire range of current Surround Controllers as well as those back to 568.2 and even earlier 861`s is a big project not only in testing that the fix works, but also making sure that nothing else has been broken in the implementation of the code. This must be incorporated around other tasks - we have many important projects, the Trifield width fix being one of them. I have discussed this with them more recently and it has not been forgotten. This "Saw Tooth" realtionship with Meridian is getting rather sad.
They go months and years dragging on something to the point that customers get very upset. Then they come out with something great, perhaps Trifield along with apodizing. And everyone is thrilled again. But then back to hibernation again. It would be so nice to get a more steady state support of problems like this. It should have fixed with in a few months.

Running multiple lines of descent (simultaneous revisions) across different nearly identical products is a real PITA especially if you have limited or inexperienced resources to do it with. Having been their myself on many occasions, I sympathise with Meridian and commend them on going back through older products where I am sure the reality is that in real numbers there are probably very few of these instances in the wild and of those of them that are, the problem was probably never noticed until bought up on here otherwise the problem would have been discovered years ago and fixed before it had a chance to propagate into newer kit.

I have now spent more time listening to this with different material (instead of the 5 minute test I did yesterday) and I agree that it is working.
I do think that the range of adjustment is considerably less than I remember previously. I would prefer there to be more adjustment on the upper end.
I have ended up with 1.5 but think that I would prefer something around 1.6 or 1.8 if that was possible.
What settings are others using?

Those sound like the words used years ago when we concluded it was broken.
You should have plenty of "range" when it's "working". You could go from very wide to very focused and it was not subtle. No lack of wanting more range becaue it went way beyond what you'd probably want in practice on both ends.
I agree on 861v4/G68 it does something but it's very very subtle.

"This must be incorporated around other tasks - we have many important projects, the Trifield width fix being one of them." Since likely only Hitchhikers know of, and care about, the problem, and our numbers percentage-wise are relatively modest, I can't help but think this isn't high on the priority list. Disappointing but realistic. Maybe we'll all get impatient and buy 861V6s.

Hi George Thanks for the reassurance that my memory is not completely defective or that I am over fussy in what I expect! I would describe the v6 Trifield width adjustment a subtle too. I think we should relabel this thread to "does not work any better" so as not to mislead anyone or encourage Meridian to do nothing to fix this.

It is a clear difference when you hear the Trifield width in v4 or v6.
