Hi there,

Anyone know of a UK dealer who has one in stock?

Many thanks, Tim.

I'm sure any of the new list of authorised dealers on Meridian's website should be able to help you. I hear it's now part of the deal to stock the 800 Series. wink wink

Hi there,

What new list it looks like the old list and I was hoping not to have to trawl through the whole list to find an 808.2i in stock.

Have spoken to one dealer who hasn't got one in stock yet getting a demo machine in the near future and he said that it might be that Meridian are going to offer an upgrade path for the original 808 up to 808.2 spec does anyone know if this is the case?

Many thanks, Tim.

Might be wishful thinking as some Meridian sources have stated that upgrades won't be offered. However, perhaps there has been a bit of "uproar" in the 808(.1) user base?

In the Bristol show last February I asked the man himself whether the 808 could be upgraded to 808.2 and he very clearly and unequivocally said NO!

Needless to say, having just a few months earlier bought a spanking band new 808, I was not at all impressed.

The machine still sounds fantastic though!

808.2i is a pre-amp. 808.2 isn't.

I think you misread his post. He was comparing two "i's". .1 vs .2

Oops. Then the answer is significant differences across the board. New buffering, new DSP, new output (SpeakerLink), etc. etc. 808i.2 has the new apodizing upsampling filter which is supposed to be a significant improvement. 808i.1 doesn't (and is very unlikely to).

So this is nothing that can be updated. ie: change of a card or board etc

I don't understand Meridian not offering an upgrade to the 808.1. Even if it were uneconomical, at least it would fulfill the promise of the card based architecture and their commitment to upgradeability. Surely the chassis is the same.
