I am trying to figure out a way to send digital data from my 861 to a device that accepts digital inputs (my understanding is it is the AES three cable digital input type). I have the Meridian Digital Outputs, but the website says it only works for the Meridian speakers. Is there a way to get a three cable AES output of the Meridian 861 digital signal? I'm trying to output the digital signal to a Trinnov Optimizer.

If there is no way to do this, what other preprocessors are around that have similar DSP modes as the 861. In particular I love the "music," "ambisonic," and "Trifield" modes. I would also want other modes available as well. The important thing is that I have the ability to directly output the digital signal via a three cord AES.

Thanks.

BTW, my setup is currently 5.2 but will eventually be 6.2. Right now I'm only concerned about getting 5.1 digital out to another device. If possible I would like to be capable of getting 6.2 out to another device as well.

I don't believe there's an easy way to do this. I tried with a DEQX unit.

The closest would be to set all the speakers as non 96 digital and then send the individual digital signals to the Trinnov (two speakers per cable.) If you need AES rather than SPDIF then you'd have to insert a converter for that (I think; those converters aren't expensive, but you'd be introducing more jitter) ... likely easier to get the Trinnov with SPDIF inputs instead.

If you do this then the 861 would be doing decoding, but, you'd need a volume control in the Trinnov (or after) because the 861 sends digital outs at full volume.
