That makes sense, because the FM tuner in the G-series feeds the 96/24 ADC. Analogue inputs to the G91 will be high res, but that's sampling at high res, not upsampling to high res!

Guys, let me ask the speaker question this way if I may? Other than the 8000 which is out of my price range... which is their best speaker for music?

I own DSP-33's, DSP5000's, DSP5500's, DSP-6000's. And I have listened to DSP8000's (couple times in peoples homes) and DSP5200's. I have never heard DSP7000's or DSP7200's. And a whole bunch of expensive analog speakers.

So far, the DSP-6000's are the sweetest things I have ever heard in my life (maybe I'm just due for a change). Both sets of DSP8000's were in poor rooms in my opinion (that would suck the life out of any speaker) and I have no doubt they are the best Meridian speaker.

I just heard DSP5200's today. They are pretty sweet sounding and are a significant step up from DSP5000's (Bass and openness).

Very few of these demo's were side by side A/B tests and the room has a lot to do with it.

A friend was over who is rather critical of how much I spend on audio and liked my previuos setup. But he knew immediately the DSP-6000's were really something else. Now he wants to bring some friends over to hear them (Lexicon owners).

George, thanks that helps a lot. My demo of the 7000's has been postponed until Monday due to the dealers schedule.

The 7200s which are, supposedly, a significant improvement over the 7000s.

It sounds like I should fine a nice pair of 6000's used. From what I read here and on the net it would seem the 6000's are the sweet spot for sound vs price.

without a shadow of a doubt the DSP6000s are the best value secondhand Meridian speakers (ignoring some horribly low priced eBay 8ks in the USA) but they are large and imposing so the WAF is something that must be considered. I was lucky my other half preferred 6ks to 7ks although I may be testing her with 8ks!

If you find some, you should make sure they are 96/24.

I've been busy recently and which is why I saw this discussion so late in the day. I can confirm that a G91 does indeed upsample CD to 88k. It also upsamples 48k DVD /DVD audio (or Virgin TV) to 96k but it only upsamples in two channel mode. FM radio is converted to 24/96 digital.

I have found my ex dem G91 clearly superior to the G98 it replaced, particularly on CD, although if that is down to the upsampling I suspect that I wouldn't notice if I also had an upsampling G68 or similar. It was so good that I stayed up late for several nights rediscovering favourite discs.

I would certainly recommend the G91/DSP6000 combo, but if you buy at long distance don't forget to budget for delivery. Most ordinary UK carriers won't handle the weights involved. It cost me over �300 to ship Mr Meridian's old DSP6000s from Scotland to Leicester. There was a cheaper option, but it would have been much slower. My �300 did at least buy excellent service!

I thought I would jump back in and let everyone know that it only took 4 years but I am now setting up my Meridian system. My profile will show the components. A BIG thanks to all for your help and direction.
