Hi All,

i'm thinking on buying a new processor, and im looking at some used ones. And i have found 2! A G68ADV and a 861v1 Processor, but witch one should i go for.
But witch one delivers the best sound, CD/DVD/DVD-A?
(861v1 do not play DVD-A)

My systen:

2xDSP6000, 2xDSP33, 568.2 Processor, 596 DVD, 508.24 CD And 504 Radio

And maybe soon a 598DVD-A

The G68ADV beats the 861v1 by a *mile* for everything. In many respects the G68 is equivalent to an 861v4, particularly for all digital systems. Multi-channel digital support came with v3, which should give you some idea as to how old the 861v1 is.

Given that you already have a 568.2, Meridian Room Correction (MRC) and 2x multi-channel analogue inputs are the main headline features you will get with a G68 vs. the 568.2.

Is your 568.2 the multi-channel digital input "MM" variant with the VGA-style connector at the top left of the back panel (as you look at it)? If not, the G68 would also give you two multi-channel digital inputs.

Finally, the G68 undoubtedly has subtle improvements in many areas over the 568.2, but they may be that: subtle.

If you are not running the v2.5 beta (essentially production) firmware with your 568.2, you should try it as the v2.5 firmware share much of its DSP code with the G68 and 861v4.

I'd go for the G68 too. The 861v1 is likely to be a downgrade from a 568.2. A v4 may have better analogue circuitry than a G68, but since you're fully digital the difference (if any) between an 861 and G68 is likely to be small. It's all about upgradability, and your best guess about where it will be.

Don't forget the G68J in the restaurant. It's half way between a 568.2mm and G68ADV. It lacks video and zones, but still has the 6 channel analogue and 2 multichannel digital inputs. I've got one and I love it. Definitely a move up from the 568.2 except for one thing. I just wish it had balanced analogue!

I just upgraded from a 568.2MM to a G68ADV and I think it is a significant upgrade. It is quieter and provides a more detailed soundstage. The room correction also took away the boominess in the mid-bass. The presentation is on the whole much cleaner. It's a joy to have and use. You won't be sorry moving from a 568 to any of the G68 iterations.

Hi All,

I'm buying a G68 in the USA. But im not sure if i can use it with european Voltage (in Denmark 220V 50-60Hz)

The Meridian website describes the power supply as "Power: Universal supply 100-240V, 50-60Hz".

Does it mean that i can plug it right in, or do i have to change the power supply??

Hey George, do you/or others, know about FM ranges in the radio(G68)?

I have heard that the US is using another FM-Band/Frequence is thats true?

In DK we use 87.3-108MHz.

The FM radio range is broadly similar in the US and EU; about 86MHz to about 108MHz. (Also same in much of Asia. The main oddball countries are Japan which uses a much lower range around 76-90MHz, and Russia which has some old transmitters down at 66-74MHz as well as the EU band).

The main US/EU difference is in the frequency steps used in AM broadcasts which are 10kHz US / 9kHz EU. This is usually a selectable option in high end equipment.

I think the onlynthink different in EU vs US FM is the steps. And I think there is a setting for it.

Having owned a G68XXV and now a 861 v4.25...the 861 is much superior....most noticable with better equipment
