I know that was meant with all due respect and all that. But it's bloody funny!

It always makes me laugh when you check those 'fault finding' sections at the back of manuals.

No power LED or system won't power on?
Check power lead is plugged in, and that the wall switch is on.

I've just had a look at the G98 manual!

No lights are displayed when switching on

* Check that the AC power supply is connected correctly.
* Check that the ON/OFF switch on the back panel is in the ON position.
* Press Display to check that the display is not blank

And how about this beauty:

The on-screen display shows WRONG REGION CODE.
* This indicates that you are attempting to play a DVD-Video disc encoded for a region that is not supported by your DVD player.

You sort of get used to that stuff, but when you look at it in the cold light of day, it's pretty patronising.

I'm glad that the less experienced get good answers here, and I wouldn't want the board to become a closed shop of experts like any single brand board is likely to become. But then again, if anyone ever did find that fault finding guide handy, it's probably one of the window lickers who have to stick their faulty LCD/Plasma on eBay because they've winged they Wiimote at the screen for a particularly powerful forehand smash.

With all due respect, etc. I'm smiling at the manual writers, not the newbies.

I just realised my reply got attacked by a whole bunch of "sometimes" so I suspect it may may not have been as obvious as I thought it was.

What Ian's reply fails to make clear is the "yoga" position necessary to point the remote at the IR window on the DSP6ks whilst operating the on/off switch low down at the back. It normally takes me several goes to actually get to the "sigh of relief".

My favourite instruction is the one on a silica gel packet which came with something electrical years ago: "Do not eat this packet".

By the way Kiminova and Scott. My reply was not meant as an insult nor is the follow on humor.

It was just to inform you what "re-typing" means. It's pretty basic once you've done it once or twice. And it won't be you're last .
