I've finally managed to get myself a 201 Mk 3 preamp form fleabay, and have already managed to buqqer things up. I`ve managed to lock up the display!
I was trying to unlock the Mode control. It`s a Mark 3 but I only have a manual for a Mark 1. Being a Mark 3, it has a slightly different set of keystrokes to those described in the Mk 1 manual, so I tried the “500 series” method which is to hold down the relevant keys and switch the power on and off at the rear.
Disaster!
The volume display shows “F” whichever input I select, and the volume control is maxed out and can`t be changed with the red buttons (nor from my 209 remote).
Have I destroyed the unit or is there a Magic Reset for the 201 Mk 3? or does anyone have a PDF of the manual they could send to me?
cheers
Chris
Regards, Chris

Im also interested in a 201 manual. I have mislaid mine and I am looking to sell mine so not ideal selling a unit without operating instructions.
Does your 201 have a second room card fitted? Maybe you have put it into 2nd room mode.
Meridian service should be able to help. I had a query regarding the battery of my 204 a couple of weeks back and they were still very much up to speed on these bits of kit.

Hi Ian,
I'd put it into "fixed volume" mode... After much wailing & nashing of teeth, I noticed that a chap on fleabay has another 201 Mk 3 up for sale and a PDF of the manual. Needless to say, a grovelling email went off to Manchester and the manual duly arrived (Andrew Cecotti you are a star!!!!), and supplied the information I needed.
So I have a hard copy manual for a Mk.1 and a PDF dated 1990 which might be for a Mk.2 (my Mk.3 has a date of 1991 on the rear) but nevertheless has most of the controls & displays listed. Certainly it got me out of the deep hole of explaining to the "keeper of the dosh" how I'd managed to buqqer it up after two days!!
It's replacing a 101B in a 200/263/204/M2 system in the dining room. It sounds soooo much better than the 101B!
My job for the weekend is to make up a Q1 cable to go from the 201 to the 204 (all the bits arrived this morning). I then need a cable to go from the 204 to the 200. I don't have a 200 manual (anyone got a PDF they can send me?) but the 263 manual shows a 201-200 connection using an E cable; so that's what I've got in at the moment and it seems to work

Give me a few days and I should be able to do a 200 manual.
Glad your experiences are positive. I loved my old 200 series setup (into kef 104/2's) and for music it was a backward step when I went to 565 with DSP33's. It was only when I moved up to 568 did music start sounding as involving as my old 200 setup, but I still miss the presence of my old Kef's - they went to a chap in Talin, Estonia who had a Wadia (sp?) set up and he loved the sound too.
Im selling my 200 series kit (200,201,203,204) if you have any friends who like the sound of yours! I thought that I had sold my 204 but the buyer has gone silent at the 11th hour.
