Is there any Bluray player out there that supports DVD-A. They all have Dolby True HD which is the new MLP But is there players that can play an DVD-A disc ? Off further interest what are the optoins to get a 3*SPDIF hack, such a BD player. Just like the "DVDuppgrades" for DVD's. wery slim hope that Meridian finally arivess with an HDMI input uppgrade for the G68J. I probably have to junk the whole G68J and buy something new. I'm just pondering options, it would be ridiculus to go back to an analog interface for me that would be DA-AD<G68>DA-amp-speakers, goodbye high fidelity. It's probably about time to get on the Bluray train now... But I'm absolutely unsure off how to do it properly. Regards Mikael

It is Probably not the right time to get into Bluray now. If it is the winning format, anything you buy now will be looking a bit poor very soon. Meridian Will come through with a solution for your G68 in time, when this happens, that may well be the time. Whilst you wait you can still buy discs. You can still enjoy what you have now. You can even buy a cheap player, just to get a video fix. But if you want the full HD audio solution done properly, now is not the time. Patience, all things come to he who waits. Just my thoughts, Cheers, Chris

Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

Thank's i think death comes to those who wait's then I run to local supermarket i buy a dirt cheap no name BD player and starts to collect movies , migth be a good idea and a HDMI switch, this sseems to be a plan. But i need a long term option for all my DVD-A's when my G98 finally gives up the ghost. I can only hope that somebody cracks DVD-A encryption in ~5 years so i can rip em and store it on a server. And that M provides a digital path for audio on BD players etc

Personally, I'd prefer a BD player with SACD support.

I'd be surprised if there are very many BD players that will support either DVD-A or SACD. Having said that, the new DVD player from Oppo does, so perhaps down the road if they make a BD player perhaps you have a chance for universal support. Personally, I wouldn't be buying an expensive BD player untill the spec is finalized, i.e. Profile 2.0 support. There is a chap who offers a 3xspdif output just not sure which players can be modified. Check out www.switch-box.comSimon

Your G98DH plays DVD-A discs. Keep it for your CDs and DVD-As. If you can wait a couple of months there will be a plethora of cheap Ver. 1.1 BD players to choose from. You'll be able to listen to the standard DD or DTS soundtracks through the SPDIF connection to your G68J and wait for Meridian to come up with a BD solution and a connection/processor solution for the new codecs. Have fun in the interim and don't sweat the fact that you're not listening to lossless codecs when you watch movies. Your CDs and DVDs will sound just as great as they do today. Enjoy.

Over at : http://www.quadraphonicquad.com/forums/ a similar question was asked recently in the DVD-A section . there was a Panasonic early profile player which played them but their later models don't . ~M~
Mostly harmless. Comfortably numb.

Mnyb With Meridian's non-announcement, I am looking strongly at the new Samsung BD5000 as a stop gap until Meridian actually do something regarding HD
At 450 approx, it sports decent to good specs and will output 640Kbps DD and 1.5Mbps DTS on SPDIF to your G68. This will sound quite good as compared to the normal 340 and 480Kbps DD and 750Kbps DTS found on most DVD's
Add in the fact that it's Dual (HD and BD) Format and will allow access to HD's as they fall in price over the next while
Mind you, I would still use your G98 for CD, DVD-A as well as DVD (Upsampling in conjunction with your G68)
While the forthcoming Denon, Marantz and Pioneer players may be "better" performers, they are also twice the price or more and are Bluray only. Like others here, I will wait for the Bluray Specs to finalise before I buy a player for the "long term"
All in all, not a bad stop gap until Meridian wake up. (IMHO)
Spec Summary
• Blu-ray and HD DVD playback at content native HD resolution of 1080p/1080i/720p • HQV video upconversion processing - HD video (1920x1080) • Selectable DVD upconversion via HQV processor (720p/1080i/1080p) • HDMI version 1.3, Component Video, S-Video and Composite video outputs • BD-ROM, BD-R, HD DVD, DVD-ROM, DVDR,DVD-RW, Audio CD, CD-R, CD-RW • 1080p 24fps playback on Blu-ray and HD DVD • Full HDI capability via HD DVD • Dolby Digital, DolbyDigital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, dts-HD, HR, MA (upgradeable by firmware) • MPEG2, VC-1, H.264, HD JPEG decoding • Stereo and 5.1/7.1-channel audio outputs (8 channel uncompressed) • Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) • Ethernet port • Coaxial and optical digital audio outputs • 10-bit/108MhZ video D/A converter; 24-bit/192KHz audio D/A converter • BD Java

Yeah my G98 is a keeper for sure, but it's more pleasing with only one disc spinner insted off three in the rack.
Maybe M future BD player will play sacd ;-) as dsd is a part of BD spec.
Whats so hard with doing a truly universal disc spinner with digital out on everything ? Which i wanted years ago with my investment in G98/G68. Meridian was closet to what i realy wanted all pros and con's weighthed. The only missing piece back then was sacd wich held off my investment for years, i've been an 598/568 owner if it was'nt for that, I realized as the years passed that nobody does the stuff i want, so I have to give the closest runner upp a chance. Which I don't regret regarding sound quality which is super, buth the promised uppgrade path whas the icing off the cake, the cost of this kit maybe be peanuts for some on this forum but not for me. The G series was supposed to be uppgradable according to the sales blurb, so M has to live upp to that
For the money a G98 cost the new G?? BD should realy play everything. I will accept's thats 78's or phograph cylinders ;-) are not supported.
Now I must get an cheap interim fix so i can start collecting movies again

For the record, the first Panasonic BD player plays DVD-A. Excellent and encouraging ! if a lowly panasonic do this, it means that it is going to be a quite normal implementation. This will be possible for Meridian to
