Hi All,

My 598 appears to have become a bit fussy about what CDs it will play. To avoid any further 'How much did you spend on that DVD player and it won't even play my CD?' discussions with SWMBO, I reckon I'll need to replace it.

I've checked this thread:
https://www.meridianunplugged.com/u...bb=showflat&Number=41813&fpart=1

Mine is a fairly early model, but still has the DVS DSL-720A (firmware lv15). Ideally I'd like to find a source for these. I've also noticed that the latest firmware (1.89.2) notes mention that they've added support for the DRL-200. This is a nice move from Meridian for future-proofing our investments! Thanks, M!

This looks like it's the drive, the specs say DRL-200/210. I'm a little worried that it might turn out to be the new slot loader drive, despite the picture.

Did anyone get as far as finding a source for these things? I guess we could do with a distributor for at least the UK and USA.

Thanks,

Mark.

Intresting fact's sorry if i'm sligthly off topic. but the spec

You linked to does not say anything about DVD-A ? do you now if this drive reads DVD-A. This would worry me when my drive gives upp the ghost again.

My understanding is that if it's a DVD drive, it reads DVD-A data. It's the off-drive MPEG decoder that handles the DVD-A decoding.

Its very specific in what it says it reads - DVD-video.

I would call Meridian technical department to see if it will be compatible - not least, because it is a writer too.

It would also be nice to get an answer about DVD-Audio, especially since some of their other products specifically mention "DVD Audio (optional)" although this may be when using the digital bus rather than SPDIF output.

Might be academic anyway - I've just heard back from DVS and it's been obsoleted too!

Anyone know what the going rate from the Mothership is?

Mike - It's worth a try, but I reckon you'll be on Amex Black levels of service with some of the kit that you've had off them!

Joel, I wish! Thanks for the compliment! I wonder if there's a staff discount?
