A digital interface is more likely, now that the interface has been agreed on. According to an earlier post, only the protocol has been agreed upon. They still need to sort out the copy protection that wraps around in. Meridian feels their interface is a better. Of course they will probably support the standard, hopefully along with their Smart Link, when it is ready.

Do you think that will take long? I mean they have been working on this for 3 years!!! They just have to agree on using the same encryption The problem is that the encryption then has to be put into new chips. This probably adds 3 months as well. /Soren

Well for all the 561 owners let's hope we get a Digital DVD-A upgrade. Hopefully someone at CES can confirm whats instore for the 561.

Amen to that.It certainly seems that 561 owners would support DVD-A from the off if they were given that chance.I agree with the earlier post that I would be less likely to invest in the upgrade if it was just analogue. It would defeat the purpose of new 'digital multi-channel' to a certain extent. Manus
Mostly harmless. Comfortably numb.

This is the best news I've heard so far on the 561.Whatever it is digital or analog as long as the 561 can play DVD Audio.Keep up the good news guys.

Yes it is good news and I wouldnt mind a analogue interface to DVD-A as long as bass management is handled inside the 561. But a digital interface would be the way to go not to mention being able to use Meridian DVD/DVD-A drives with the 561.
Cheers, Rob

I own a 561 as well !
An analogue multichannel input sounds very promising although I am a bit sceptical about it's feasability especially considering all that's been said on the forum before about the 561's expandibility.
But I'll keep the spirit at high levels...
Let's hope the 561 becomes a product which does live up to the "Meridian expandibility / upgradebility" as claimed by them.
