The other day, I made a software change to my 568.2mm, connected to a Lavry DA10 DAC and I forgot that I had to make the change in a specific manner to avoid the problems I just encountered.
Normally, when I make such a change, my Lavry's either turned off or volume set to zero. Not this time. I made the software change and flicked over to my DVD player to place a CD when all of a sudden, I got this almight burst of white noise, which instantly cooked my titanium dome tweeters on both speakers.
I spent most of today pulling all the drivers out of my speakers to make sure that no other drivers were damaged. Fortunately not.
How many other people here have managed to cook their speakers in whatever manner?
Thanks and cheers Pasadena

I had that once when my G68J locked up when scrolling through the menu to adjust the lipsync delay. Fried a tweeter instantly (luckily just one). I had to ran to my amps to turn everything off manually.
Ever since I added a G91DH to my system, the system had it quirks. Although lately I have less problems, occassionaly one of the speaker will 'spike' briefly when playing a movie. Most likely caused by the source material (I play mostly off-air HD material) so that can have it problems, but still you expect the processor to filter it.

I worked briefly at a store that had a set of DSP-6000's. Amid driving them hard at about 89, my friend dropped in a DTS disc into a CD only player without turning down the volume first. The white noise took out the tweeters immediately. Meridian was so kind as to send new ones at no charge and we were back in business in no time. I loved the speakers and the company so much, that I have been working over 10 years to build the best Meridian system I can afford.

No problems with my Meridian stuff. Had a set of AR12s back in the 80s that if you looked at them wrong the tweeters would go, but no problems since.

How many other people here have managed to cook their speakers in whatever manner? I prefer mine deep fried or grilled . Tweeters seem to go out quiet often in comparison to other brands. They're not "too" expensive or difficult to replace, but should have been better built/engineered. That said, I've not seen or heard of any going out on the D3100 or D5200 speakers. Can anyone comment on the robustness of these speakers? BTW, I've not blown a driver in any of my DSP speakers in the past 3+ years (D5500/D5000/D420/D33).

I've had one and only one incident with mystery tone burst out my G68J It was during an MRC session. For no reason it went in to what must have been acoustical feedback in all channels it's not repeatable if it is a bug, it only happens every 4 year, god luck to anyone who tries to debugg this. Anyway i was close by and run to my amps and turned them off, so it saved my speaker drivers. Another factor was that i have one amp with adjustable gain and the rest hooked upp with rothwell attentuators that takes away -10dB of gain, so my total system gain is pretty low. /Mikael

I had a party and someone decided to play Zucchero very loud - as one does. The trouble is that I would normally have set a max volume on my 201 (45 down from 65 IIRC) but some bright spark had turned off the power earlier in the evening and the max volume was not reinstated.
To cut a long story short, the transients on one of Zucchero's songs were probably too much for the 205's and they started to clip. I think this took out a tweeter on my NAD speakers as the following day, one of them simply made a sound of tinny rattling.
It was not all bad news, as it gave me the perfect excuse to upgrade to a beautiful pair of Kef 104/2's that lasted me nearly 10 years before they were shipped off to an enthusiast in Talin who now enjoys 'being there' amongst the music with his Wadia CD player.
