HN,
No clicking relays with V4 861 wink And it does a stunning job with both DVD-Audio and upsampled 5.1 movies while giving the ' option' of MRC .

I think it may be worth your while checking out some of the interviews that have popped up with Bob Stuart ( and others ) from Meridian over at www.cinenow.com and also magazine links here in the not too distant past . HDMI may be an 'industry standard ' but it also presents problems which have to be overcome if M are not to end up with the mantra ' we said it was an upgrade , we didn't say it was better '. I think the delays are because they don't want V6 to sound poorer than V4 .

Incidentally , I do remember your thread a long time ago on recommendations
for the new generation of formats , but alas the industry has just created another mess with multiple formats and profiles . As much as I may be impatient , I don't want to pay a premium now for something which may need major changes ( other than software ) in the next 2-3 years .

1) HDMI solution with MHR for new codecs

2) Maybe a G Series Video processing solution to free 861 of video duties .

3) Improved Tape and Digital Bypass facilities .

Best of luck in your searc for a solution

~M~

M is still doing V2 to V4 upgrades at least here in the US. I had my 861 upgraded last month. It was delivered to my house the day before Thanksgiving.

Total turn around time was about three weeks and two of those were shipping accross the country. Anyway my point is that the upgrades are still available.

Yes, they are still doing them from a certain serial number on upward... I'm not sure I see the point since the cost of the upgrades and new cards + cost of V5/6 upgrade will likely be same as a new V5/6 unit. Not much motivation for me at this late in the game with products like TACT and others out there... I don't think there is anything to lose at this point... And the dealer grip is tight. I am an advanced user of 20+ years... I'm not paying anywhere close to retail for a product I don't need dealer support and never demoed... but that is another story smile Well, it just doesn't matter this late in the game with the cost of the upgrades and the cost of V 5/6 upgrade + cards for V4 and future cards for V5/6... May as well buy a new unit in the future if I like what M does. These things are never and were never software upgradeable...

I thought it was the 800 that no longer had upgrades from v2...

[861's] were never SOFWARE Upgradeable

To be fair, Meridian never claimed that they were upgrageable by SOFTWARE only. Sure, some Firmware Updates did result in a performance or feature benefit, but Meridian only claimed that they could be Upgraded. The "How" was never really mentioned

Try Upgrading your 8 year old Car, Computer, Phone, Server, or ANY other AV Component using SOFTWARE only (I.e. No hardware change) and see how far you get

There are many here frustrated with Meridian's slow pace but expecting to upgrade by software alone is complete pie in the sky
