First post so be nice smile

A couple of weeks ago I purchased an F80.

I have an entry level Naim system that got put in the spare room during some decorating and hasn't come out since as it's pretty big for what tends to be loud "background" music vs. dedicated listening.

I'd started off looking at the Bose Wave Radio and then some sod suggested check out the F80.

I've no experience of Meridian kit beyond knowing the name and reputation, and frankly it's just mind blowing how something that size does what it does.

I've been using it for a combination of DAB, CD and iTunes/Internet Radio playback through the Optical Out on an Airport Express, and I can't stop grinning at how good it is.

Anyway that's the waffly intro stuff. My basic question is if there are any "tips and tricks" beyond the tweakery in the setup menus?

I noticed I have Firmware 0.2.23 and I know it uses FreeRTOS so I'm kind of curious what upgrades may be on the horizon - I emailed Meridian prior to buying and they suggested nothing is imminent but did confirm it has a Flash ROM so is relatively upgradeable.

cheers!

Congrats on the F80, they are great arnt they?

Play with the Tilt to give an overall sound you like. Position modes seem to do ok but you could play there as well. Adjust Bass to suit. Thats it.

Have you watch Music DVDs on it. Just below the TV, Its fantastic with Steve Marriot, Live in london. Proper Pub rock R&B.

It has Lip synch delay although I never needed it.

Try listening to an ordinary radio now, you will want your F80 back.

I was thinking, if you could have only ONE good physical thing in your life? For me it would be the F80.

Cheers, Chris smile

I feel for you. Mine was delayed by about a month - well at least it felt like it.

Interesting to see what s/n you get - may get an indication on how fast they are flying off the shelves. Also, what firmware version may be interesting too.

Thanks guys! I'll report back on the serial and firmware number. Do we know if firmware is updateable?

Yes it is but I have no idea how. Nothing obvious - probably a custom cable I guess. I may have to get a Nordost Valhalla one made at it should give a better quality software upgrade wink
