I don't think I've seen this discussed here, but for those of us with older M processors room correction is possible for PC based sources. One solution for for Logitec's Squeezebox may be found at www.InguzAudio.com.Of course I doubt anyone with MRC would have bothered to implement this, but I'm wondering what the comparision between MRC and Inguz/DRC would be at least from a theoretical perspective. Papers on MRC talk about how their solution differs, by only looking at the lower frequencies, in particular 'room modes' where resonance is introduced and specifying a few notch filters to rectify. The Squeezebox solution in contrast looks at the whole frequency spectrum, and whilst not doing a crude equalisation inversion, does I believe adjust the whole curve - I think a bit like a glorified graphics equaliser. I'm still struggling to get this working on my system, but meanwhile I was wondering what thoughts people here might have.

I've glanced over this and have read a lot of posts on it. Seems as most folks get mixed results.
Keep in mind that he is doing two channel optimization of the source where Meridian does each speaker after surround processing and crossover processing.
It's worth experimenting with, with or without MRC if you have the time.

Well after finally getting it to work, I can report some very positive results, the most noticable being a taming of my sub and some boominess which made high volume listening uncomfortable. I can now listen at higher volumes. There is plenty of scope for tuning, so I suspect that with some effort I will be able to limit its impact to something like what MRC does, though I haven't heard any pre-echo effects of the sort described by M for this kind of filter.
Meanwhile I would recommend this to anyone who does not have MRC (and a PC source)
