I thought you would be interested with my findings.

I have recently purchased an SB3 and am feeding it like my G08 CDP via SPDIF through my Bryston BP25DA preamp. I also found a definite difference in the sound to the G08's favour.
With the G08 the soundstage is fuller, richer and the music is spread more evenly between the speakers.
Changing to the SB3, the music although of good quality and matching I suspect many decent CDP's, is localised more towards the speakers and sounds thinner (less bass??).

I'm pretty impressed with the SB3 and am using it for general listening and internet radio (it won't be replacing the G08 for serious listening though).
I have ripped a couple of CD's using EAC and FLAC, but for the life of me can't yet work out how to separate the songs into albums on slimserver.
Yes I've been to the Slim Devices forum to no avail.
I know it's OT with "M" gear, but if you or anyone else reading this can help with this one I'd appreciate it.

Apparently the 800 series and the G series share the same DVD ROM drive.

go to Settings Exact Audio Copy Options and look at the instructions at number 20.

I used the second option (code) in Naming Scheme and Use Various Artist Naming Scheme.

Does the Bryston perform jitter reduction or upsampling? Also, is your G08 outputting upsampled PCM over the SPDIF?

I suspect that the upsampled output is only available in analogue form.

Mark, the G08 upsamples to 176.4kHz for the internal DACs and to 88.2 for the digital outputs. I've heard a G08 directly into DSP3100s and the speakers' HiRes lights were on...

I didn't realise that SPDIF could go above 48 kHz.

That's how Meridian does HiRes DVD-A into the G68 or 861: 3x SPDIF @ 96kHz (with MHR encryption). As RBCD is not HiRes, the G08 can probably output either 88.2kHz PCM or 88.2kHz MHR.

Well my ESI Maya 44 Soundcard can do 24bit@192KHz output over SPDIF so it can indeed hold higher bandwidth. (no my G68 won't sync correctly @192KHz in case anyone wondered )

PS. I also remember reading in M literature that a speaker would be upgradable to 192KHz in the future )
