Hi

Looking to upgrade my speakers.

Standmounts circa 1000 for use with Meridian amplification (205 monos)

Already considering...
Amphion Argon2
Proac Response 1SC + Tablette Ref 8 Sig
Sonus Faber Concertino Domus

Any opinions on these or other recommendations?

Cheers
Mike

If you don't mind second hand, and are very lucky, I've seen Wilson-Benesch Arc sell for close to your budget.

Cheers,
David.

well Mike... i agree with the 5200 advice but they are active speakers...so play in a different league! the Sonus Faber (concertinos domus included) are superb...and the Proac response too...so make an audition and choose!!!

If you go active check out AVI for a cost effective solution.

Being a Shahinian convert I'd look for a s/h pair of Shahinian Arcs, if you can get over the looks (a veneered swing bin!) they are a great speaker. I've got a pair that cost me 600 running on a 557 at present

Thanks for your recommendations so far smile

I'm definitely sticking with passive because I really like what the 201+205s do. Need to be standmounts as they ar elikely to be used in a small flat (I havent moved yet and wont be buying for a few months - I'm just fishing for ideas for when I do)

Arcs I have considered but if I saw a pair even second hand for a grand the first thing I'd think is "what's wrong with them?" smile

The Amphions are extremely good, as are ATC SCM 11s. A very different sound is the Zu Tone. I've reviewed all these at sonicflare.com

I heard these at the HES show and they were fantastic for the size/price:

an offbeat selection, but worth pursuing.

Yes, "The Guru" himself lives here in Stockholm and has previously made a lot of speakers on a semiprofessional basis, both for Sound Studios and home users. Finaly he has understood that the one year backlog might indicate there's a demand for his speakers, he might even have them manufactured to make a profit... I don't know if Guru Pro Audio is an entirely new company, or if his "Ino Audio" has become Guru - I believe the former.

Previously his speakers needed to be in a well dampened room. While I haven't heard these small babies, I've read this is no longer critical with this model.

Ino Audio has also made impressive bass modules:
