Hi all,
I am experiencing a few problems with my G68...let me first explain my setup....I have the G68ADV connected to a Classe power-amp. The source is a HTPC with a SPIDF and multichannel analogue output. I use the multichannel for music and the SPIDF for DVDs.
The problems are:
1. I get many spikes on my power-amp on the SPIDF input. I use Foobar2k for music and every time I stop and start the music I get a high spike even if the volume is low...I am surprised that I still haven't burned any of my tweeters...It's really weird, as I have changed soundcards, used a different SPIDF port on the G68 but the same result. Do you think this a G68 problem? What else could be causing it?
2. I have noticed that the G68 cannot route SPIDF inputs to Zones2/3. Only analogue ins...Has anyone else experienced this?
3. The G68 arbitrarily switches the input to the multichannel analogue in, even if I have set it to the SPIDF input (when watching DVDs). I switch back to SPIDF-in and then after a few seconds it switches back to multi-analogue…it`s like it has a mind of its own!!! Any ideas why this could be happening? Is this a bug?
By the way I run the latest firmware 1.36 Panos

Try setting to "Poor audio source".
Right Clickj on G68 in mconfig, choose source tab and then the device and set the property.
Worth a shot.
Sound like it's losing sync.

If the unit is already set to poor audio source, then some people have reported that this can causing pops.
Sounds like the source when stopped and started is causing digital lock to be lost. Do you hear the relays click when you do this?

yes I do. What would cause this? Sometimes I even get pops when the focus on the foobar window changes from the background to foreground while the music is still playing! Initially I thought it was the sound card, but I replaced it and still the same. The relays click everytime this is happening.

Have you tried a transport instead of the sound card.
Could be noise from psu in the pc causing spikes down the SPDIF which if giving the G68 a hard time locking on.

The clicking relays are normally caused by loosing digital lock. I expect this is caused by the functionality of the sound card/drivers/pc that momentarily drop digital output under some situations.
I get the click if I change channels on my digital TV box. But I don't get any popping.
The relay's are a precautionary measure to prevent damage to 'downstream' devices. They basically ground the output so nothing is output - no audio goes through the relay. On some Meridian processors, the relays are solid state so no clicking is heard.
I think I heard somewhere that they can also click in when DSP mode is changed and the new DSP is loading up. So instead of loosing digital lock, maybe is something to cause the DSP to change, maybe even momentarily. This could be linked with your 3rd problem.

Ok I will upgrade the PSU and see if that makes a difference. Thanks for your suggestions!

I'd look at another sound card or even better a SqueezeBox than chasing the PSU. The idea of a SqueezeBox is to completely isolate the Computer from the Audio System and give you a display, give you IR control, and remove the physical noise the computer generates.

You can let your Meridian Processor Decode DTS/DD rips. I assure you, it will sound better too. You just need to get the data in the correct format so it will stream right through (from disk to processor). You can do this with foobar2000/SPDIF as well to test it. http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=19260 I also created a thread for testing your "Music Server" setup. And includes pointers to some DTS test tracks (in the correct format). So you can try these first. If that works then go to the thread above on how to convert your data. If it doesn't you have some work todo. P.S. If your not running ASIO drivers on your sound card for foobar2000 then it probably won't work and may also explain some of your issues because your sound card may be resampling to 48khz and making a mess out of things. http://www.meridianunplugged.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=8;t=000331#000000
