I don't know if any of you are reading the Italian Audio press (btw much better than the english or the french audio press, i would rate it second to the US). Audio Review has posted several articles on Deep Stereo, and for me it is just Trifield. Does anyone have a clue?

This article at Stereophile talks about continued work on extracting "surround" from 2 channel source. Maybe Trifield+++ http://www.stereophile.com/features/407upward/ Bill

Trifield+++ is Ambisonic, which the article describes are both brainchild of Michael Gerzon. He along with the holder of its license are also its downfall. They couldn't get their "light years ahead of everything else" technology off the ground while the dumber than dumb Dolby Surround goes to become a global standard. Obviously marketocracy and snakeoiltocracy trumped meritocracy.

Micheal Gerzon was a genious But so is Ray Dolby.
Ideas have their time The Gerzon time might be just coming.
5.1 is a pain for most domestic setups. Deep stereo from 2ch makes huge sense.
The SoundField Microphone array is popular again.

Dolby is a genius in the marketing world, having sold the whole world the concept that they have to constantly upgrade (hardware and software) to get more channels and better sound.
Time to standardize that 5.1 format into ambisonic G+2 so that we never have to be forced into planned obsolescence by marketing people.
