My 596 seems to be extremely sensitive when it comes to playing CD's. If it's not a perfectly new CD it jumps all over the place. No problem with DVD's tho.

Any suggestions about what I could do about it (apart from changing all 300 of my CD's)?

apart from the suggestion above, speak to the mothership as your CD drive is probably about to go t*ts up. Has probably happened to everyone on here with a 59x player.

Never happened to me...YET! Knock on wood!

I had a 596 for a few years and then a 598 now for a few years. My players never run very hot though. My rack is open with enough ventilation to keep things cool.

I had a 500 transport once that did the same and Meridian tweaked the laser gain and lubed the laser mechanism to fix it.
