Most commonly the centre is set to the master, but I believe it can be any speaker. So your suggested layout will work.

Nice setup. Do you have enough bass there... ?

Hi Tony

If I may make so bold....

Is the 5k centre in there as a stop-gap until you upgrade it? If not, can I suggest that you get shot of it with all due haste! It's a good speaker, but it's performance is so dramatically below that of the 8ks that it makes no sense to drag down the performance of an otherwise world class system with a unit which simply can't keep up. I had a 5kc with 6000 L/R and it was outclassed to the point that I decided to run without it as the centre as it just sounded better.

If space is the constraint, the 5200C would be better, but a 5500hc or 7000C (if you can accomodate a vertical centre) would give a real performance boost.

Cheers

George

Congrats!
I also agree with George on the center performance. The 5kc is a very nice speaker but its not in the same league.

Another thing to note is try the different boundary modes on the speakers. you can use different modes by disconnecting the other speakers and altering one speaker at a time. if you did MRC first, youll have to redo it though.

best regards,
Jerry

George is spot on here. I still run a 5kc with my 8k's but the difference is huge. Is does make things like Trifield very hard to master matched this way.

Space//WAF all conspire to prevent the upgrade to a 55kc or 7khc

Thanks for advice guys,,

I am contrained by space and I need a horizontal speaker.. I will look at an alternative..

System has been in moth balls for 18months, I am just getting it back together.. I am a complete novice

I have mananged to bring system to a standstill using the new Configuration program

Only speaker working is master (FR)

Remaining speakers remain in standby when I power up system,
that is why I was checking that I had 'typed" speakers correctly

I have "typed" 800

"retyping" 861 is a little strange as what appears on front display when I follow the "typing" process from the manual (up arrow)
is message "MHR Always" or "MHR as necessary"

Nothing like what the user manual says..

Any suggestions on how to get this system back to square one and working would be grateful

800 is V3
861 is V4

Thanks

Tony

Sounds like some comms or controller issues. I think it needs to be done a step at a time. For now, unplug the 800 and let's see if we can get the 861 and speakers talking to each other.

Can you describe your cabling path for the comms cables to the speakers ?

Thanks mark,

System was working fine before my "fiddling" So we can assume the cabling is OK..

I have unplugged and powered on 861

Only speaker active is Master, all others on standby..

It's the Meridian Communications cable, allowing the processor and the speakers to talk to each other, and the cable for the master speaker has a slightly different connector than the ones for the other speakers.

Let's go from a different angle. Was everything previously working ok, with this exact same setup, including all the same wiring going to all the same speakers ? If, so what was the last change you made before it stopped working ?
