Hi, I have a G68ADV and no sub on my setup.
The front speakers are rated down to 40Hz while the surround down to 50Hz. I have setup everything as large, but I am a bit disappointed with the bass performance I get, especially compared to my stereo pre-amp (Classe CP-500).
Is there something on the settings that I have missed? How do I tell the processor to divert the base to the front speakers?
The problem is very noticable when I use the Ambisonics DSP mode, where the lack of bass is apparent, especially on high dynamic passages.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Panos

Hi Panos,
Setting the centre and the surrounds to small will divert the lower frequencies to the fronts.

Hi Panos
Check the speaker size (speaker protection) settings and make sure they are not set to zero or a low number. If they are not set to max then try changing them to this (but go easy with the volume control).

What is the general consensus? is a sub really imortant, especially for music?

You want a Good Sub for Music. Cheers, Chris
No 18 in the Hall of fame I have simple tastes; I am content to settle for the best: GIK monster bass panels, rear wall. QNAP TVS 471i3. Roon into DSP5200SE via 210/ 218 zone... Explorer 2. Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

I run with no sub.
I disable the low freq protection and let the speaker protect itself along with common sense usage.
You don't need a sub for music if your mains go reasonably low, my 3 fronts are rated at 30hz and I get plenty enough bass for my taste. 40hz may be a bit short though. Just like amps and what not some companies are conservative on ratings and others not.
In general it cost more to find a full range speaker that will go as low as some subs. Subs are flexible in room placement. But there is no rule a sub is required for music.
But I find full range speaker blend bass better. I also think some folks go beyond what the original artist intended reagrding low frequencies.

If you think listening to music is fun, try learning an instrument. HT: G61RSL, 4x5K, 5.5KHC, 2xSC6000, Transporter, HD621, Philips BDP7501 4K, Tivo, 65" LG OLED 4K C6 Computer: Foobar2000, 5K, Mojo, HiFiMan HE1000 V2

I use a sub for music but I still run my main speaker as large (they go down to about 38Hz)and use the high level inputs on my REL. To my ears it sounds much, much better this way. For a non-digital speaker system I wouldn't recommend getting a sub that doesn't provide flexible high-level connection options.

I ran for years on DSP5000s with no sub; Musically they were excellent - rated to 35Hz; I now use them in rear with dsp5200s in front - they are also rated at 35Hz but do handle bass much better than the 5000s; I now use a sub with them but It's rare for music to use the sub; It's mostly for movies LFE; I find myself constently surprised at how little the sub kicks in for music pre-sets, even when it sounds like it should - there just isn't a lot of music down there those frequencies... Maybe I'll get some Pipe organ stuff that forces it! ken

I use 2 subs in a 5.0 setup. Running the subs from 17Hz to 120Hz and I'm using an electronic crossover network. I find most music, even acoustical outputs rather much of low frequencies.

How do I disable this?
