I'm new here and would like to thank everyone for the great information on the Meridian product line.

My goal is to get the latest firmware upgrade into my 861 V 4.2

When I load the firmware with the CD (version 861_42 build date 12/5/06) that came with the upgrade I have no problems.

Now I'm Trying to load the new version (861_424) and get some really strange results.

During the loading cycle I get the "Bad Code Combination" notice till the last file goes in. This ahould be OK because the message is flagging a mismatch and is not an error per se.

The odd thing is that after the new code is and the 861 rebooted. The unit will play also but the volume level of each speaker will oscillate especially in the lower frequencies. I went back to the older version of firmware and an its OK.

Anyone else have this problem with the new firmware?

Not related question: When I set L/R main speakers to small in mconfig what is the slope of the crossover point?

The "stereo" DSP setting is where the problem is most dramatic.

Can not say that I have had this problem...I would suggest turning the unit off from the back panel...waiting a minute or two...turning the unit back on and trying again...another idea is to lower the transfer rate, perhaps slowing it down to 14400...

Hope some of the above solves your problem as there is, at least to me, nothing more frustrating than confguration/software issues.

Let us know what happens..

Thanks JoelC. Tried switching the power but not slowing the transfer rate since I have not been getting errors. Is your 861 an upgrade?

I would try retyping it to factory.
Reload firmware.
Retype again.
Download config from 861 to PC
Adjust setting (don't use old config).
Then upload to 861.

If you are running DSP's make they have the latest firmware as well as any other Meridian components.

prp2k:

retyping does not involve downloading any files...rather it involves, with the unit in standby, holding down the volume up buttom for three seconds and following the instructions on the front panel display....by "retyping to factory" i assume that george means selecting one of type o through tupe 5 as these are the ones that are standard (i.e. not user defined".

I'm familiar with the typing process from the manual. George threw me with the "to the factory" part.

How do I check for the latest DSPs as george mentioned???

Aim the remote at the master speaker and press the Display key. Compare to the versions here .

Sorry. Thought DSP was something else. I'm using AO13 Balance out to Rowland 501 mono blocks.

I'll retry the load sequence George Mills stated and post results. This is the strangest thing and its very frustrating. Thanks

Correct retyping from from front panel is about the only way to reset to factory.

When I say DSP's I was referring to DSP speakers, which it sounds like you don't have.

I have read on this forum in the past if you don't have the A013's setup correctly you can have issues (correct slots and correct jumpers). I'd compare your setup to what 861 mconfig recommends.

Note that both my suggestions are reaching as I don't know what else to suggest and is what I'd try if I were stuck in the same situation.
