What is the scale for the Trifield width setting, ie is the default setting of "1.5" the widest soundfield or the maximum centre channel fill?

The 1.5 setting produces the "widest" effect from Trifield.
This is a very important parameter to get right and get the integration of the front 3 speakers. Set the depth of the centre first (by ear) to get the best integration/reinforcement of the bass in your setup. Set the width next listening for smooth transitions on panning sounds across the front. Generally, one setting "snaps" into place as correct. If you set too wide then the L/C/R speakers sound disjointed and location specific instruments from part left and part right sound strange.

Malcolm When you set your Room Aspect Ratio, Does this effect the Trifield Width? F.Y.I. Mine has a 0.5 Ratio and the speakers are Wide apart, Trifield Default is Max width. Cheers, Chris

Bluesound Pulse 2, Mini & Flex. 596v1, 518, Foxsat HD, Sony BDP, Pioneer 5090, 2 Chromecast's for LRB videos. MS200 to F80 for a Roon zone

The Room Aspect Ratio is mainly used for Ambisonic, which has to know how send signals to each speaker so as to synthesize a wavefront soundfield arriving at your ears.
A long and narrow layout would cause the signal to be different from a wide and shallow layout.
Since Ambisonic are vector encoded signals instead of being pre-decoded for discrete speakers, their final decoding could change based on environmental parameters that differs from room to room (besides the usual speaker distance settings).
It could be possible to indicate speakers mounted high as such so that above ear level information could be conveyed if the source signal dictates (not to be confused with above listener speakers that intercepts front to rear pans and interprets all of them as over the head sound).
