How much of a difference is there between DPLII and Prologic w/steered rears in regards to Prologic encoded video sources (I am not talking about music.) I have the Meridian 565 and am wondering how much am I missing w/o DPLII?

There's a definite improvement on Dolby Surround encoded Laserdiscs and DVDs.

You'll want to get Pro Logic II as an upgrade if it's offered on your Meridian unit. No question about that !

How about DPLII music mode? Is it superior to Trifield? If it is, I might as well get rid of the Meridian and go out and get the $299 AV receiver that will have DPLII soon.

Although I have 3 identical speakers in the front row, the center is a little more bass heavy due to the support of the back wall, well, the center is also exciting the room modes differently because of it's middle position in the room.

However, with Trifield I sometimes get the impression that bass is routed much/maybe too hard to the center (all my 7 speakers are the same and set to large/max). I think the bass in the Center is related to the Trifield algorithm and not the center push as written above ???

With DPL2 Music or Cinema I feel the bass is more spatial. Of course I could be wrong and the fault lies somewhere else. So on bass heavy music, like Pop and electric music I prefer sometimes DPL2 over Trifield.

For real critical music listening I prefer most always direct. This might change as I advance with my room treatment.
