High resolution audio is what Meridian is all about.

I am looking forward to a Lumagen RadianceXG/JVC RS1 with the HDMI 1.3 high rez audio routed to the HDMI 1.3 updated Meridian surround processor.

I don't care what Meridian is thinking or waiting. Silence is not a good solution for their customers' concern about high rez audio. It's not a good business practice either.

Hmm I think someone needs to take a chill pill.

All good things come to those who wait and it's not like there is an over abundance of material that can take advantage of HDMI 1.3 at the moment. Enjoy what you have to day and tomorrow will come around soon enough.

Never mind that all the discs are authored with advanced audio requiring in player decoding which makes needing HDMI1.3 a moot point from a practical perspective.

Cheers,

Arcade,
The JVC RS1 will not have HDMI 1.3 according to sources at AVSForum. But maybe you only referred to audio?

Yes. From an audio perspective, 1.1 is all you need.

I'm ignoring SA-CD as all right thinking folk would immediately convert it to something useful (aka PCM) immediately smile

In fact, unless you're going for deep color, and nothing's going to be going on with deep color for HD films anytime soon, there's no real world need for HDMI 1.3. But that's just me stating my opinion.

From this article.

HDMI 1.3 adds additional support for new, lossless compressed digital audio formats Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™ which provide up to 8 channels of lossless surround sound.

New high-definition DVD formats (HD-DVD and Blu-ray) and game machines (including the Sony PLAYSTATION 3) will make use of capabilities added in HDMI 1.3.

The PS3 which is scheduled to ship in November 2006, will be the first source product to provide such high quality imagery to these displays. It is expected that hi-def DVD players will follow early in 2007 with HDMI 1.3 support. A/V Receivers that can decode DTS-HD Master Audio and Dolby TrueHD will start to show up early in 2007 as well.

Let me explain this again.

HD-DVD has zero titles authored without advanced audio mode. This means decoding has to occur in player for the advanced codecs. So HDMI 1.3 isn't needed.

I don't know enough about Blu-ray, but I suspect that the same is true if they use any BD-J functionality.

So what does it buy you? Nothing (IMO) from the audio side.

The reason we haven't seen Dolby True HD or DTS HD audio is the huge disc capacity required.

As production of the 50GB dual layer Blu-ray discs ramps we will see more and more Blu-ray titles using Dolby True or DTS HD audio.

As an example Fox has embrassed DTS HD "identical to the master tape" lossless audio with 24Bit resolution.

All of the below Fox Blu-ray titles are confirmed for DTS HD lossless 5.1.

Behind Enemy Lines
Fantastic Four
Kingdom of Heaven
Kiss of the Dragon
The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
The Omen
Speed
Transporter
Ice Age
Usual Suspects
Windtalkers
Bulletproof Monk
Rocky
