Unfortunately all the Meridian dealers in my area are not storefront establishments, just installer firms. The dealer I originally bought my 500 series components from is no longer in business, and the company who bought out the biz (DSI) doesn't return phone calls!
Does anyone know of someone who can do Meridian setup and service in West LA for legacy equipment like my own? I can't find anyone on the Meridian dealer list here who will do a service call.

I have had similar problems in Northern California.
My experience is that Meridian support staff is always there to help users who have been abandoned by their dealer.
Most importantly, they support the dealer techs and can suggest the good ones.

John- I have a 568 processor and a 596 DVD player. I haven't updated the firmware for either device in 3 years, and after moving them into a new room I need to reconfigure the sources (specifically the DVD source from digital coaxial to optical) and the speaker setup. This past week I attempted through the legacy software to do a firmware update using a PC laptop and a keyspan USB to serial cable (recommended by Meridian in GA.). Through many permutations of coms, I still couldn't get the 568 to be seen by the software. It still functions normally. I tried using an older pc with a serial out, but it couldn't communicate with the 568 either. I haven't tried the 596 yet.

Arcade- They couldn't suggest anyone except DSi and Evolution- both far away and n DSI's case, uninterested. That's why I posted here.

Time to bite the bullet (like most of us on this forum) and do it yourself. You'll be glad you did. Step one: make sure you are using the latest configuration, FUP software and device firmware and handbooks from Meridian's download site: http://www.Meridian-audio.com/download/components.html Step two: when you get stuck, read the handbook again, if you are still stuck, call support at Meridian/Atlanta. Step three: If you learn anything or have any specific prolems/questions, post again.

Barkingart,
While I don't claim to be a Meridian expert I have managed to successfuy setup two seperate systems, one 500 series one 800 series, and I am on the West side of LA.
I would be happy to work with you to get you setup and going.
Drop me an e-mail off list at dvoncannon@pacbell.net

I noticed that David Weinhart, former owner of Ambrosia Audio (which was purchased by DSI) has opened a new store and apparently is carrying the Meridian line. Perhaps he can help you. I purchased a couple of things from him and he was always courteous to me. Weinhart Design

Thank you, Gents. The GA office set me straight- I needed a null modem adapter for the rs-232 cable. David- I'll hang on to your email if I run into trouble. Good to know a fellow Meridianut in the area Frank- Thanks, good find! I'll bookmark it. I got to know david fairly well during the Ambrosia years but had no knowledge of whether he continued in the business.
