The current issue of HiFi+ has a review of the DSP8000 speakers.
The review is fairly positive, but occasionally damns with faint praise. By the standards of contemporary hifi journalism, it's quite a long article, and doesn't just paraphrase the manufacturer's press release.

I don't think so. HiFi+ have some reviews up on their website, but I don't expect that they put reviews from the current issue online.

Yeah I read that review too. Seemed keen, but I would have expected him to be keener given the price. Then again he says 'The DSP8000s deliver one hell of a bang for your buck'.
If it's maintaining a good bang:buck ratio at 29k, then there's pretty phenomenal bang there.
One of the boxes ('Where next for interactive speakers') does hint at a DSP with Wifi input. There are a few here who'd love that!

My own highly biased 2 cents. I was a serial upgrader. Since I got my 8000s and other M gear, I have stopped caring about whats the latest and greatest and the tech fades into the background and I just enjoy em. I am sure the ball will keep moving, but I love the results this system produces.
best regards, Jerry

i dunno about wifi. unless my math is messed, you're looking at sustained, continuous, without-hiccups 20Mbps (+/-) from the access point to do 7.1.
they'll have to buffer a ton (many seconds) of content. it seems like it'd be weird.

Hey MrDoody. You think DSP5500HC gives you a bigger sound for center channel then a DSP5200HC?..

The only deviations from standard [setup of the 8000s during the review] ... were the substitution of Nordost mains leads and Chord CoDac interconnects for the standard items. Both offered significant benefits, to the extent that upgraded SPDIF leads in particular should be considered an essential upgrade. The CoDacs, hardly pricy in the context of this system, delivered an astonishing increase in dynamic range, clarity, transparency and impact, unfettering the speakers' performance as effectively as the standard leads choked it. With the improved leads in place, the Meridians started to deliver on the active promise. The 8Ks sound really fettered with the supplied leads? I must say that I am very surprised that Meridian don't supply 75 ohm digital coax with these speakers. I must go out immediately and buy some new interconnects for my 5Ks. I am glad, however, that the reviewer managed to get his 1's and 0's sounding better using products from his personal sponsors. I don't want to start another "my 1's and 0's sound better than your 1's and 0's" argument, but once I read this, I couldn't take any of the review seriously. Wish I hadn't bought the magazine now...

Just A Fan: no clue. never heard a 5200HC. i love my 5500HC though - i'm not even interested in considering swapping it out.

I once bought an Orelle DAC purely on the strength of an absolutely glowing review in HiFi News. It was good, but not exceptional and for a long time I regretted not buying the used Meridian 203 which my dealer recommended.
Since then, I've never trusted a review in a HiFi mag - at best they're subjective and at worst biased for the all the wrong reasons.
