Buy a Sim2 C3X I have never seen anything like it in the market as yet. Send me a PM and I'll get you a brand new one the SIM2 C3X for a very good price.

Just back to that review, I too subscribe to What Hifi and have that edition. I have to say I thought it was pathetic. The WhatHiFi team got their hands on some really serious kit with both M's new video processor and projector and they dedicate a whole 1/4 page column to the whole review!!

It has actually made me want to cancel my subscription, as in fact , nearly all the reviews this month are pretty useless, especially when it comes to reporting technical capabilities - take the new 5* Sony LCD - what really do you learn about the set from the review - you would of thought they would mention if it could take a 1080P feed and how it performs here - makes me think maybe they never got round to actually testing the kit and just made up an add-hoc review to get it in!!!

Rant Over

[rant]There was one review in a magazine (I can't remember for definate which one but I think it was a "What Plasma" magazine) about two years back that did a group test of LCD's. They gave the winner of the group test to a Sony and feature checked its HDMI connector even though it did not have one and missed DVI connections off other displays even though they did. I can't see how they could actually have performed any of the tests as the particular model that they had previously 'tested' and photographed (as with all available Sony's at that time so it was not a case of mistaken identity) did not have any form of digital video connection what so ever, let alone HDMI as in the feature list. Maybe the review was not even proof read which is even more of a cardinal sin. So the very thing, HD connectivity put it as a front runner and ultimately a winner of the group test was not even a full feature - component only HD video.

Group test conclusion

As a result, I take magazine reviews with a pinch of salt.

How do the M projectors handle 2.35:1? This is a critical feature as far as I am concerned.

Despite what the Meridian brochure says, from everything I've read (and that is a lot), you can do a lot better than the Meridian/Faroudja processors.

Think Crystalio II, Lumagen Radiance (not yet released), and DVDO VP50 (just about to ship). These should be able to handle constant height use cases.

Here's a review of DVDOiSCAN VP 50 from some English dude.

I have to agree with VK here. Faroudja's processors were king of all processors at one time, but now we have others in this game and they are better and cheaper then Faroudja's . I am using a Crystillo II with my Sim2 C3X and I am happy with it.

Yeah. Meridian did the deal with Faroudja because it needed entry into the projection / video processor market, but they would have been kidding themselves if they thought that Faroudja represented the current state-of-the-art. Gennum, Silicon Optix, and ABT lead the field now.

The Meridian/Faroudja/(JVC) PJ is different though. The JVC HD10 was always a good LCoS PJ. The William Phelps optimization makes it much much better. But I have no doubt that Phelps-optimized Rubys and Pearls will give similar performance (as well as offering better input compatibility (e.g. 1080/24p) and internal display rate options).

Aren't we supposed to support Meridian products? I think Meridian/Faroudja are superb combination.

Not if they purport to be the best and aren't... And especially if you can get a lot better for less.

Would it be possible to buy the VPR without the video processor?
I will be owning a VP50 soon and don't want to waste my money in another processor.
