How can you tell if dsp6k are 96/24? They are running 4.00 software, does that indicate there capability? I have this question with the serial #s in with a dealer, but I thought someone out here might know as well. Thanks john

Hi jg
Do you have the speakers, or is this with a view to purchase? The reason I ask is that it will be easier to verify if you have time to spend with them. Do you have a Meridian processor (later than 565)or DVD-A player to connect to them?
If they are MkII versions (dot matrix display) then thay are native 96/24. If they are the MkI versions (LED segment display), there will be a dot illuminated (like a full stop) at the right of the last character when an 88k or 96k signal is being received. A processor (568 or later) will be able to send an upsampled signal to the speakers to verify. Mind you, the easiest test is whether they produce sound or not with an upsampled signal...if you can hear anything, they are 96/24 capable, as the older models won't handle MHR or anything above 48kHz.
Cheers
George

Mr.Meridain , I have a pair of DSP 6ks that are MK1 and a 5500hc that is a new demo unit that has a 96/24 label on the back of the cabinet, obviously not being used until the 861 arrives. I am using a computer as a front end, equiped with a sound card that outputs up to 96/24 via coax cable. I bought the 6ks 2 years ago and I am not sure of there exact age. Thanks John

Well, one simple way, is, if you can load the newest firmware in them, they are 24/96. If they are older, the firmware will refuse to load.

Hi John
If you are getting sound when the PC card is genuinely outputing a 96k signal, then they are 96/24 compatible. Otherwise you'd just get silence. Do make sure it's a 96k (and not a 44 or 48k) signal though. The MkIs did come with 96/24 DACS for a couple of years before the diplay and front panel graphics were changed.
Cheers
George
