The topic was lost, but for everyone who is interested in the ending I thought I would let you all know that I have received a new 800D from the M factory.

The first unit had a bad HDMI board and I tried to get it do what I expected it to do for over 20 hours. The new unit that arrived two days ago, was working within 5 minutes .....

I was disappointed with the quality from M. I guess you have all seen that video of the factory, how M has improved and automated quality control. Very unexpected end result, 0 points.

Anyway I was very happy with my dealer (loan DVD player). And I did not have to wait for 4 weeks to get a new unit. This time it arrived within 4 days from the factory, which means they shipped it the day after I returned the defective unit to the dealer. service 10 points!

And offcourse now that everything is working I am again a very happy M owner. This is an amazing piece of Hifi equipment. "You get what you pay for" is very positively true, again 10 points.

marcoro,

What FW did your new 800D have.

my new 800D showed up with 800_272 showing on front. See the FW thread for more info.

It appear that it now supports 1080P but I don't have a diplay that does.

btw, I was thinking I had a bad 800D too when it 1st arrived. Worked fine when playing DVDs but when I used the VI00 for another video source pciture had strange problmes, no color, washed out, out of sync.... tried a number of things....
then turned off the power on back and on again
and the problems went away.....I though I saw going to have to ship it back to M.

Brian,

Mine also has 800_272.

In the setup menu you can select 1080p, but this option is not available in mconfig.
I tried the setting with my Pioneer 506, but the screen goes blank, I guess it is not supported.
The auto option selects 1080i.

Now the question is what's better, 1080i or 720p?

I don't use any other source, DTV is feeded directly into the plasma. I did have some sync problems with audio, but noting persistant.

Martin
